I haven't seen the series myself, so I'm not actually sure.

Re: Ano Ani – Spring 2017

You've probably already figured this out, but there were two short films that got made first, before it was turned into a full series. The first was a product of a young animator's project that runs in Japan and the second, I believe, was kickstarted by fans since they liked the original so much. Th...

Re: AnoAni - Winter 2017

No comments? Let's fix that! My brief thoughts on Fall 2016: Yuri on Ice - This was really great. But as you mentioned, it wasn't just that the show itself was awesome, it was also the buzz and how far it spread. I'm not sure if you saw but there was an article on the CBC website about what Canadian...

Re: LRRcast - Anime Recap: Winter 2016

FITorion, I believe you are speaking of Paranoia Agent . unpronounceable, I would potentially be interested, thought I tend to watch older series more than one episode per week. Tatami Galaxy is great though, so you should watch it regardless. I'm so glad they talked about Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinj...

Re: LRRcast - Anime Recap: Autumn 2015

Hmmm ok, I think I get what you mean. It might be hard to find, but I think you might really like The Twelve Kingdoms . It's a fantasy and focuses on the personal story of the main character while also building a much larger world filled with politics and some great characters. It's broken up into a...

Re: LRRcast - Anime Recap: Autumn 2015

What is it about grimgar that you do like? That would help us pick something else that might fit better. I'm not watching it so I'm not sure what kind of fantasy it is. Do you like action? politics? world building? different creatures/cultures?

Re: LRRcast - Anime Recap: Autumn 2015

I really want to watch something mundane, I would love an anime about gardening, maybe someone trying to get their cherry tree to be the best cherry tree. Trying to think back I can't remember the podcast bringing up something like that. Maybe prince of tennis which has gotten on my radar. Was it t...

Re: LRRcast - Anime Recap: Autumn 2015

Did they mention Haikyuu!! ? I skimmed through the podcast, so if they did I missed it. I super fangirled over the first season though, as you can tell from my review . The second season has been pretty solid too, but not quite as good as the first season. I still look forward to watching it every w...

Re: Steven Universe

This Steven Bomb was really great. Tons of plot development and world building, but the small character moments are always what make this show special. The last three episodes were the strongest and I thought they did a great job with Peridot. What a tsundere! I also really liked how in Thursday's e...

Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Anime Frustration

Ya, it depends a lot on who is doing to subbing/dubbing too. Some subs do a really good job of adding context as well.

Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Anime Frustration

If you don't mind reading subtitles, then the only reason to specifically choose a dub would be if you are watching an anime with a lot of cultural nuance in it. Sometimes, when these get dubbed, they alter the speech a little to provide a little more context for an international audience. As a simp...

Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Anime Frustration

Guys, I'm not sure this is worth getting into an argument over. Yes, perhaps the original post was a bit misleading and caused some frustration, but it's been pointed out. Can we move on and get back to talking about anime now?

Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Anime Frustration

Perfect Blue is quite graphic in terms of violence and yes, it does have one scene of sexual violence. As much as I admire the movie for so many other aspects, I've never been able to quite enjoy watching it because of that. For me, what really makes Monster work is the characters. They are all real...

OK, I'm getting a better sense now of what you are looking for, so allow me to try again. I know you have a list already (and some great selections there), but I have a couple more suggestions. If you are looking for another Ghibli movie to try, I would suggest Only Yesterday . It's not one of the m...

Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Anime Frustration

I can totally understand how getting started in anime would be overwhelming. There's a lot out there and there are lot of elements common in anime than are not found in most other animation, such as the silly faces you mentioned. I'd like to offer a few suggestions that might be a little less common...
