Re: Prisoners Forced to Play WoW, or Face Beating

China isn't alone in its gender-focussed infanticide. India practices it too... Although it isn't so much a policy of the state in India, they still do little to try to prevent it... The problem with the whole male/female balance thing is that it make sense for a society to have more females than ma...

Re: The Dream Thread

I'm in the same boat. I usually only dream if I wake up in the morning and go back to sleep for an hour or so. If I have a full nights sleep I don't dream at all.

Re: Describe Your Gaming!

PC Gaming - Currently my most active area since I'm away from home and couldn't bring my XBox 360 out with me. Shame I only have a laptop out in a hot country; I'm kinda limited to less graphically demanding games and indie titles. Had to get Portal 2 though... What a game. Current Console Gaming - ...

Re: Past Mistakes

Paul strikes me as playing the type of scientist who is too far into the science to see that what he's doing is kinda sociopathic (installing Linux into Graham's brain) whereas Kathleen seems like the type who just doesn't really care (Ripping the space-time continuum a new one). They should definit...

I always think its weird when you get "the most powerful ally" and they insist that your character do all the work. Why do fantasy heroes/heroines keep putting up with this crap? Still, I mean, with that face, she wasn't getting work in any kind of up-market games so... I guess she has to ...

Really, you think Italy can be embarrassed by anything anymore? They have Berlusconi for a Prime Minister... I mean the guy is currently on trial for hiring an underage prostitute and there are, like, a dozen other cases where he was acquitted because he controls the legal system and/or media. I mea...

Re: The Dream Thread

I don't typically remember my dreams but I'm starting a course of anti-malarial medication in a week or so whose possible side effects are "intensely vivid dreams" in about 25% of people. So I guess I'll be checking back in a week if things go that way. I had a dream last night about turni...

Re: Advice Thread

It's long and it's tedious, but it works... eventually.

You could Google some of the processes and see if they're necessary or not... Then shut them off and see if it breaks. Or toss your computer out the window and buy a new one, whichever's easier.

Re: I can has liberry?

Bad Science by Ben Goldacre is a good non-fiction pop-science book. Pretty tongue-in-cheek and really funny in places. It's basically a trained medical doctor and science journalist tearing apart hack homeopathists and crystal healers and the like. I'd definitely recommend it.

Re: DLC as Pre-Order Bonus?

I think one of the problems I have with pre-order DLC in particular is it makes me feel like I'm missing out on something by not pre-ordering, not getting the best gameplay experience I could be. The main problem here, I think, is that too many people are playing a meta-game. Trying to accrue all th...

Re: DLC as Pre-Order Bonus?

I am not a fan of DLC in general. To be honest I much prefer games to be insular, one-shot, complete bundles. (Good old days blah, blah, blah). The extra levels and maps in a game are kinda cool sometimes, but yeah, I feel like DLC shouldn't impact the original game AT ALL. Then again they need an i...

Alright. I am running Windows 7 with Chrome 11.0.696.65. I am running the AdBlock extension for Chrome however I have it to not work on all Penny Arcade sites and have turned it off - no change. Re: Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper

As far as my (limited) knowledge of Sherlock Holmes goes (aside from walking past Arthur Conan Doyle's birthplace every day for a year) basically every crime is solved almost instantaneously by Holmes usually followed by some pipe smoking. That would be a very boring game... or a very detailed pipe ...

Yeah, I use Chrome so it has Flash player built in and it autoupdates. Tried running Penny Arcade episodes from blip.tv and they just don't load. Actually, this does happen with some old LRR videos that run embedded flash.

Help with PATV

It's really cool that the new LRR show is appearing on PATV. Unfortunately PATV has never worked for me. Whenever I try to open one of the videos I just get a grey patch where the video should be. I've tried using different browsers, both Chrome and IE7 fail to load the video. Does anyone know what ...

When Oblivion came out my girlfriend apparently (I wasn't dating her at the time) went around checking the weights of every day objects to see how easy they would be to steal and what their weight-to-gold ratio would be.
