Ad Hijack

In Chrome, trying to view the Videos Archive, as soon as the ad loaded it forwarded me to a site with the fake virus warnings: http://savertasksdeliverer.info/198ar58 ... 52c4a/pr2/

Unfortunately didn't see the ad responsible.

Oh a somewhat related topic; Have they disabeled all ads on the forum?

I've never had an issue with ad hijacks on this site (maybe because the only ads I've ever seen are for LRR stuff), but since about a week back or so all the ads have been replaced with "Broken image"

Is this a step by LRR to stop hijacks by removing all ads?

The forum straight-up isn't working for me at the moment unless I enable ad-block... with every browser I've tried (Firefox, Chrome and IE; Linux and Windows). It looks like the ad scripts are doing something truly horrifying with document.write(), and the entire body of the page ends up being parsed as part of a <script> tag. So you're left with just the logo and menu links at the top, an ad down the side, and nothing else.

I'm not entirely sure how they managed it... I tried to read what the scripts were doing, but I got as far as reading this mess:

Code: Select all

document.write('<SCR'+'IPT type="text/javascript">');
document.write('document.write(\'<scr\'+\'ipt type="text/javascript" src="http://ad.360yield.com/adj?p=17195&w=160&h=600&tz=\'+(new Date().getTimezoneOffset())+\'&click3rd="><\/scr\'+\'ipt>\');');
document.write('</SCR'+'IPT>');
document.write('');
document.write('');
when I closed the tab by reflex to prevent further brain damage.
[edit] Actually, I was nearly there... the script mentioned there is the culprit, it document.write()s a start script tag with no end-script tag, so everything after it in the page is rolled into that script tag and then not displayed. [/edit]

Every now and again a page will actually load (possibly coincidence, but it was often the first time loading it in a new browser to test) but after browsing around and refreshing a couple of times it would break. And even when it was working, the formatting was still very broken.

Removing the exception in the ad blocker fixes it, since it doesn't run whatever script is misbehaving, but obviously I'd rather that not be my permanent answer...
