If only I had reliable internet right now, I'd offer my services for that exact reason.

Should this become a more permanent solution, I will offer my services in that regard.

Man, the timing on this sucks, but the explaination makes sense. I've been up late watching Desert Bus & have been reporting as many threads I find in the forum as I can. Is reporting necessary at this point? Or are the deputies already on it?

So, is it helpful to report each spam post? What about when there are four or five spam posts in a row?

Basically, I'm asking how to be the most helpful in getting rid of the spam without flooding the mods' inboxes.

Hehheh fight spam with spam eh?

A lot of the spam posts are from the same users so wouldn't it be sufficient to report the user for spam as opposed to each individual post?

PLEASE keep reporting spam, especially if it's a post in an otherwise normal thread. Those are harder to track since I don't read all threads. Also, please refrain from posting in spam threads - we can't delete the whole thread then. Thanks!

I appreciate all the hard work of purging the scum from reality.
I'm constantly reporting all tossers (spam bots, not actual people who I think are tossers) I see.

Agreed. If there are multiple posts in a row it's less important that you report each one- when I zap the user I'll zap all their posts too. But if you find a post hidden in an already established thread, reporting is really helpful.

I'm keeping an eye on the memberlist. We've gotten a huge influx in new users and almost all of them are spam accounts, so occasionally I catch them that way. At some point I'd like to go through the memberlist and actually delete all the spammers we've banned, but that will have to wait until everyone is well-rested and this spam surge dies down.

I'd be willing to offer my services as a spam moderator, especially for those times when the other mods are asleep (ie during UK daylight hours)

That's also why I'd like to offer my services, being in Australia and all.

Maybe the Desert Bus chat could do with a southern hemisphere assistant as well, but that's a different thing. I've been chatting to Kroze about all that anyway :D

Since Desert Bus is over, it looks like it's mostly quieted down for now.

I'll still be keeping an eye out, but I think we've weathered the storm.
