New LoadingReadyLive Schedule page!

Postby Paul » 24 Apr 2014, 09:26

Hey Everyone,

I have just deployed a big update to the LoadingReadyLive schedule page that I hope will make the schedule more useful and have added a dedicated link in the navbar to reflect how important the LRL project is.

A couple of notes about the page:
  • The schedule should now be automatically adjusted to your timezone (including DST), but if it is incorrect, you can easily change the timezone with the drop down menu in the upper right.
  • I tried to make it as clear as possible, but to keep the schedule a reasonable length, for timezones where the day runs over our "night", there is a break in the schedule (indicated by a line and a space).
  • The shows and times on the schedule reflect what is shown on the Official Google Calendar (and reported by LRRbot). We will endeavour to keep the calendar up to date when streams change times or there are bonus streams.
  • You can use the arrows to the left and right of the date to navigate through weeks, up to 4 weeks into the future and 1 week in the past. Keep in mind that we don't plan that far ahead, so the future schedule may change as we get closer to a given week.
  • Under each show description is a link to the Youtube Playlist of archived episodes of that show. We will try to get new episodes up on Youtube as soon as possible, but sometimes they may be delayed

I have been working on this update for a while and it has gone through a couple of different revisions as LRL has evolved, so I hope it is useful to you guys. As always, if you have any issues, please let me know in this thread or via email ([email protected])

PS. On behalf of anyone who has had to write software that tracks time across different geographic areas, let me just say that Daylight Savings can get bent :x

I really like the page itself, but I'm having a problem with the navbar. The added button shoves the forum button down a line and overlaps with the Live and Blog buttons.

I don't know if I'm the only one having this issue, however.

EDIT: After a few tests, I've discovered that it only happens when you're actually on the forums. On the rest of the pages on the site, it looks fine.
It's all over but the crying. And the taxes.

Is the link on the navbar supposed to be always red or only when you're actually live?

Sounds like you are getting the old stylesheet. Try a SHIFT refresh

It is always orange at the moment, but that isn't a bad idea...

Yeah. I had to do that to get it working.

Also, it's not appearing on the Store, while it does appear everywhere else after a forced refresh.

Great work Paul, really good looking !

Only one slight issue for me, the display puts Sunday on a new line, under the other days (for info I have a screen set to 1366*768 ).

But yeah thumbs up from me ! :D

Pssst, you're missing a closing quotation mark in the URL tag.

Fully agreed in the Daylight Savings. I've had to deal with time zones/daylight savings far too many times, and still never have any idea how I'm supposed to do it.

Likewise here. Sunday's separated from the other days, and it won't change weeks (although it WILL count as a new page for navigating back from). In addition, I'm getting this from the forum:

Every other tab is fine, it's just the forum that triggers this. I can still click the LIVE tab, but its hitbox (for lack of a better term) is overtaken slightly by the FORUM tab.

Huh, never heard of that before. Had to look it up to see what to even do. :P Fixed now though. It's weird, I had no problems until a couple of hours ago.

Yeah, I saw that last night (and the "v10.1" bit), but was tired and since it didn't seem to interfere with anything else, so I didn't investigate. (presumable our Site Genius/God sorted it out in the interim ;) )

I just got home, got muscle-rub on my joints and sat back, and...explored all this goodness. :)

Ok, it looks like Firefox is a little more picky in its Javascript. I have tweaked the page a little and the week navigation should work now.

Did Kathleen and Cameron change their times? I thought Kathleen was 3-6 and Cameron was 6-9 PST.

also

I know they arent official Loading Ready Live events but would it be possible to add the stream bros?

I'm getting the same glitch as Lord Crusher's screenshot above (on the same platform: Fx 28.0 on Ubuntu). Something is convincing it that it needs a scrollbar, which shrinks the space and makes it so all the days don't fit.

If you get rid of the "overflow:auto" style on #stream_schedule, that seems to fix it.

I dunno if this is relevant or helpful, but the page reads my location as GMT-4; I'm in the NY area, so it should be US Eastern, GMT-5.

Otherwise, slick page.

GMT-4 is actually correct for you, as GMT doesn't change for daylight savings. You're on Eastern Daylight Time right now, which is GMT-4. Come the fall you'll switch back to Eastern Standard Time, which is GMT-5.

For comparison, the UK (including Greenwich, from which GMT is named) is currently on British Summer Time, or GMT+1.

Oh. Right, I knew that. Carry on.

[I just saw GMT-4 and instinctively thought "Four hours behind England? That isn't right."]

Paul, would it be too hard and/or ugly adding a line or something to mark where the hours change on every day? It's hard to read on the rightmost columns, for example, I'm not sure if today's VGwVJ starts at 4 or 5pm (my local time).

Thanks!

I am in favor of lines. However. I can help with your specific issue in the meantime. By clicking on the name, you're pushed down to the Text Schedule, which also is updated live.

Currently, this week's VGwVJ is at 3:30 PM EDT, which is in 4 minutes.

Ah, I didn't know the text was dynamic too. I can also go to the google calendar, now that I think about it.

I just noticed that if a stream goes past 2AM (client-time), it will get partially pushed over to the 12-1pm timeslot. Or Alex is actually doing a 12-hour Lets Nope, in which case, please ignore.

Screenshot.

Let's Nope, Watch And Play, and Adam's Gamehaus also don't have show descriptions yet.
