Re: Star Trek Online
Well, First Contact Day runs until Apr 11, IIRC, so you've got a while yet.
In my experience, the Klingons are getting the better deal for 'Day of Honor' with a unique (yet functional) Bat'leth...versus a "Phoenix" non-combat pet for the Feds.

I like my pets, but yeah. Bat'leth is pretty swanky. I love my purple light-saber bat'leth.

Just pulled all screen names I could find out of this thread and saved them in a text file on DropBox for the next time I get some access to my home PC.

Also, in all 52 pages of this thread, I'm surprised no one mentioned being able to chat in Star Trek Online from Jabber/XMPP: http://www.stowiki.org/Global_Channel_D ... de_of_Game
You can get it set up on Trillian... Pidgin... Heck, I think there might be a way to work it through GMail's chat interface.

That sounds painful. I've never beaten one of the instances that used to hang around near Memory Alpha.

Re: Star Trek Online
It...it's tricky; you actually have to THINK about what you're doing, and work together with the rest of your team members.
Heck, all it takes is for one person in a PUG to not know what they're doing (and not listen to advice/instruction/pleading) to make it an utterly pointless waste of time.
Here's hoping that with the increased rewards for this during the event, there'll be more people bringing their brains. \
(yeah, I know; I did say "hoping", not "expecting" ;P )

So you mean my opening salvo of Tyken's Rift, fire at Riker, ramming speed, might not be the best course of action...?

...dammit.
Yeah, fifty THOUSAND dilithium and a thousand fleet marks... *grits teeth*
Well, let's see if these matches are still getting bombarded with brainless spammers...*sigh* Fuck you, Q.

If you want a Lvl 50 suicidal engineering captain piloting a science ship that's been decked out for soloing by your side we could try to organise a raid time.

Re: Star Trek Online
...they CHANGED it.
They've changed EVERYTHING:
-the models and textures, (the fragments look cooler - like branches broken off a tree rather than those 'wedges'),
-there's now Tholians mucking about (probably curious about a possible relation between them and the CE; it gave me something to do as well as kiting and beating my fragile head against the CE),
-the large shards will pretty much kill you if they hit you and the small fragments from that collision are almost un-targetable (but they heal the CE less),
-there are ways of stopping the CE's "recrystalization" heal (Tachyon beam is the only one that I remember right now, but there's a few others),
-the CE has pretty strong resistances, but moreso to energy weaps vs kinetic and it regenerates quick almost all the time, (so my all-cannon escort was gonna be kinda useless against the big guy)
-the CE can also go into a 30-second 'absorb state' sucking up all the potential of any energy attacks, then flinging it back and pretty much vaporizing any full-strength lvl-50 ship within 10km, (yeah, feeling really useless now )
-confuses (Jam/Scramble sens) don't do anything to the big bird, but they STALL THE FRAGMENTS(and I just respec'ed out scramble!)
So my first daily session went: Ooo, new pretty models *reads B/O briefing* What? Aw! FFFUUUuuuu- Wait... really? Huh. Damn! Okay, FINE; I'll go on 'herding duty' shitshitshit stupid tholian webs! take that and you large frag - ha, scatter volley on the small frags! Here, dude - don't die - get off him you hotheads! Ha, run, you faceted fr-why am I dead? damn, large frag snuck up on me; full imp back to the fight; wait, there's no more tholians? Okay, I'll park at 9pm from the CE and just batter at it; whoa that energy wave, hold your fire and get away, man, we're really wearing it down! dude, here's some shield energy. aha, there's a large frag for me to kite. dang he's pretty fast - divert weaps to the engine. hah, keep chasing me, dummy- What? We got it? Cool!
So, yeah; not nearly as "fuck, there's one idiot feeding the damn CE; abort the mission" as it used to be; I can see putting this in my daily rotations.

Re: Star Trek Online
Okay, the 'Crystalline Catastrophe' event gave me a whole raft of fleet marks (and plenty of dilithium ore that I'm still refining ), so...
...now the Loading Ready Runners have a shipyard. I'm currently chipping away at the costs for upgrading the Starbase from Tier 0 (basic skeleton with a few enclosed spots) to Tier 1.
Having a WHOLE lot of fun with the Romulan content - the ambient music for the 'Staging Area' on New Romulus is really relaxing.
Curious but reserved about the launch of a 3rd playable faction; if they do it right it'll be great, but... "there many a slip twix't dress and drawers", as they say.

Re: Star Trek Online
Right, the Runners' starbase is now going to be Tier 1 in just under twenty hours; we'll have access to the Mail, Ship Selector and Common (white) Fleet D'offs.
Also PWE/Cryptic have decided to re-release all the Starbase & Embassy special projects from today to June 20th. If you've got extra dilithium sitting idle on your account, and there was something you'd have liked to see (like ivy-covered pillars in the embassy's foyer, or maybe a window in the starbase floor into the docking bay and other inner workings, or maybe some fishtanks somewhere...now's the month to burn it off.

Re: Star Trek Online
Yeah, so remember the "Klingon Scout Force" fleet action that would have twenty of us scurrying around in a mad melee?
...I just solo'd it with my V-Adm Engi in an (gift) Odyssey. It took over an hour to wait for more ships to respawn so I could get the 60 BoPs and the 36 'cruisers' etc. etc., but I could even wipe the floor with that pack of six Negh-Vars that sit near the cracked planet.
Oh well, tedious but reliable way of getting 50 fleet marks and a handful of dilithium.

Re: Star Trek Online
Yeah, so I spent ages patching the client for this new Legacy of Romulus update.
Then I enjoyed the new look to the character selection screen, and then created a new Romulan character...
...and sat in a queue of 2500 or so for about a half-hour before giving up at approx. 1300 and unchanging for at least five minutes. Then I went to bed.
So I got home from work today, changed, had a little snack and rested & browsed comics/email/fora for an hour or so, then decided to check STO again...
...now I've been in a queue of about twenty-five THOUSAND, and I've bumped up to 24681 in about the time it took me to come to this thread and write this post.
Yeah, I think my progress of 'The Moonbase, (mk.LXIV)' is gonna be on hold for a while...

Re: Star Trek Online
Well, I've run through two Romulan characters (changed my mind over which 'class' I preferred), and it's pretty good - nice to get Denise Crosby to do for the 'sneaky green-bloods' what Mr. Nimoy did for the Fedrats.
...but...
"Turning Point".
*sigh*
Ultimately we just make another race (which, granted, is much more distinctive from the others we get to choose) for either Starfleet or the KDF.
Can't help but feel a little let down by that.
I will be grinding my feddies for fleet marks to get more things for Moonbase (Mk.LXIV), and this rommie will still have my attention as I nurture it up to it's peak in the Romulan Republic Navy...and I might have to see about starting another KDF character to check out the 'start from lvl.1' content they've got.
...and of course, there's all the 'reruns' of the featured content - all the special loot that was only available when the mission chains were new is available again - an Ophidian cane for doing the Devidian missions, a Reman Boff for doing the Obisek quests, etc. All those are available until June 21, so I've got time enough to redo them on my main VAdm Tremillo.

Okay, I dunno if anyone knows anything about the whole 'Sparks McGee' shenanigans, but it's made its way to STO:

You sir, just won.
I'm not entirely sure what, in which category, what the prize should be or who the competition were, but nevertheless, this is a certified victory.
