And adding on top of that, FFN, there are ship interiors now. There was a little blurb about it on the website not to long ago.

Yeah, bridges. Cryptic apparently added them after demands on various forums.

Perpetual's version of STO had massive, cavernous recreation areas on the ships as designed by Andrew Probert (designer of the Enterprise from the original movies, TNG's Enterprise-D and interiors), as their idea was the ship was one big flying city. Then a few years later after little or no information, they revealed the game would have no interiors at all. Hah.

They had a good idea, but couldn't come up with an implementation that would be fun for everyone, and make sense in the Starfleet context. Cryptic's way at least looks like it will be fun for more people, and they've said they're considering expanding the interiors in future expansions.

I do remember seeing an older article about Cryptic deciding to include bridges with launch, and the only reason I bring that up is because it had a few screen-shots of not only the bridge, but what looked like engineering or something along those lines.

To be honest it's kind of hard to tell what a room is when mostly everything in it is a shade of blue.

Yeah, I remember the engineering-looking levels. I've seen a similar level on some freighter in the beta streaming video. I think, at least for now, you'll only see engineering on mission-specific ships you beam onto, rather than going down to your own ship's engineering.

So, you are both in the "Champions Online" closed beta then?

If there was a sly joke in there I completely missed it, so forgive me. Still, we're both, apparently, in Star Trek Online's Closed Beta.

While we're on the subject I'm also in Global Agenda's CB and, because this is all I'm allowed to say thanks to the Non-Disclosure Agreement, it's wicked awesome.

Sorry, it's something I saw on another forum - everybody in the STO thread there referred to the STO beta as the "Champions Online Beta" as a means of getting around NDA and to amuse themselves.

Somebody (apparently from the dev team) popped in and talked about "Champions Online" as well.

Even though, as many of you know, I'm all about the Star Wars, I'll be picking up Star Trek Online. Seems interesting.

Before you ask, yes I am aware of Star Wars: The Old Republic. No, I'm not picking it up. Why? Because Star Wars is the ultimate escapism for me, and if you give me the opportunity to "live" within my favorite universe, no one will see me alive ever again.

A friend of mine worked on Star Wars Galaxies and is currently doing the DC Online game or something. He's a huge Trek fan (and an SW fan), but thinks people are sick to death of Star Wars now, which might give STO an advantage.

IGN posted a video on fleet actions, which I assume are raid-type events.

Cool. I was concerned when TNG made me feel bad for the crystalline entity. Now I get to kill it myself!

TNG was kind of stupid in its ethics anyway. Everybody frowned and stuff (because people on TNG weren't allowed to get very angry) at that woman for killing the crystalline entity because she wanted revenge, and that's not on in the 24th century. Evidently they're totally fine with that thing wandering around killing other planets then?

My only comments on TNG right now are that when I was four William Riker was my hero. Moving on.

There's beta testing going on tomorrow, by the way. I know that doesn't really mean anything to you guys, but I already know what I'm going to name my ship (the Antithesis) and that I'm going to make my first officer look like a Protoss just for funsies.

For the hell of it I will let the rest of you pitch ideas for crewmen and maybe a different ship name, again for funsies but also for me to share via screenshot once I'm allowed to without getting sued.

Deanna Troi really was useless no matter where you were.

Also, that Romulan holodeck simulation is way inferior to the one Bashir was subjected to by Section 31. You suck at espionage, Romulans.

Edit: Goshdarnit - been over 10 years since I've watched this episode. Forgot it had nothing to do with the Romulans.

I've put in my application for the closed beta, and pre-ordered so I can (hopefully) get into the open beta in January. So much for no MMO's in Uni, but at least it will tide be over until Diablo III comes out.

That doesn't excuse the Really Bleeding Obvious dialogue she was given. I felt sorry for Marina Sirtis every time Troi uses her empathic powers to "sense" things we can bloody see.

So, using the open beta to see if you'll commit to the purchase? Which version/store did you preorder from?
