A letter to Infinity Ward
Dear Infinity Ward,
What the hell guys? Seriously, what the hell? Why did you just update 11+ gigs of stuff into my copy of MW2 today? No really, what the hell just happened?
Sincerely,
Gordon Fearman
Right, so seriously forumites, MW2 supposedly takes up 11.3 gigs of space. I'm 76% through the update and it apparently has downloaded 11.7 gigs of data. What is going on? This happen to any other PC users? I mean, the problem is that there are no gorramn patch notes for this bloody game.

Re: A letter to Infinity Ward

Re: A letter to Infinity Ward
13.3 gigs is the final count that was downloaded in that Steam session. And I should be up to date with MW2 so that means this patch was pretty much all in one day. Current patch number is 1.0.174. I believe it was 1.0.172 before.
Re: A letter to Infinity Ward
That's gotta be a glitch. There's no way they even possess that quantity of shit to add to the game.

Re: A letter to Infinity Ward
Well, it is POSSIBLE that they had to make corrections throughout ALL the textures & models, perhaps, which would require updated versions of a metric fuckton of files, so remember that 13.3Gb downloaded may well be just 1.9Gb of new stuff (disregarding the possibility that some of the updated files may be larger than their predecessors).
It's also a factor that some sloppy updating may have multiple changes to the same file, but the poorly-organized update algorithm has the file downloaded multiple times, once per change to the file (you have ver1.0 of "running_left_leg_01" mesh, but they make you download ver1.1 AND ver1.2 AND ver1.4)
But yeah, I'm mostly thinking it's unintentional and can be traced back to a) human error, or b) human laziness.

Re: A letter to Infinity Ward
How long did that last? Because it could just be windows, it tends to give overly large numbers at first before settling down to more realistic (I think it has something to do with the download buffering before it registers as downloading, so the first bit is uber-fast, because what was buffered is added to what is presently downloading, resulting in a seemingly higher average speed).

Re: A letter to Infinity Ward
Yeah but 22Tb/s does seams overly large even for the initial buffering stage. The highest I have ever seen mine get is around the 100Mb/s mark.
Re: A letter to Infinity Ward
We freak out when our tubes at the data center hit 100gb/s. I can't imagine how much I'd piss myself if I saw that someone was downloading info at 22tb/s.

Dear infinity ward: in what universe does a 1-hit kill by akimbo 1867's at a range of 50 feet seem reasonable to you?
