Vanilla Mafia- Town Wins!!!

Postby octopimpostor » 15 Jul 2012, 19:21

In the peaceful Sicilian village of Salem, a dark presence is about to make itself known. For years, the family based crime organization known as the Mafia has been establishing itself in the foundation of the community. Until now, the naive citizens have been unaware of the evil among them. Everyone will perish unless the Mafia is found out and killed first.
(Ya copied, i know)
The RulesW

This game begins on Day One.

At night, those with special night abilities can PM me with their night action. For descriptions of your night abilities, see your role PM.

Night periods typically last 24 hours. THERE WILL BE NO TALKING DURING NIGHT PERIODS. END OF STORY. Once the night is over, I will recap the night events, and post them. As soon as this is posted, it is day once again.

It takes a majority to enact a lynch. Lynching can only be done during the day. To vote, post “VOTE: YOUR MOM”, or something to that effect. Any vote not in bold will not be counted. A “VOTE: No Lynch” will tag you as a non-lynching person. You may change your vote at any time with something like “CHANGEVOTE: YOUR MOM.” Do not vote in mid wall-of-text. Make the vote bold so it is easier to spot.

Your role PM will specify your character name, your role, and your abilities. Any questions on this PM should either be in a reply PM or over IM to me.

Do not post in the game thread once you’ve been killed. This can be construed as influence beyond the grave. Well, maybe ONE post, of like "ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!"

If I see any emo posts whining about a lack of trust from other players, I will strike you down.

Do NOT quote my post in the thread, or in a PM to anybody else, or I will kill you without hesitation. Role claiming is allowed, but I personally don't advise it

Post editing is suspicious, and if you do it, you might get waxed. Double posting is fine, but keep it to a minimum, please.

Pretty good. Got the evening news on. I can hear it from the kitchen while I check on my puttenesca. They say a crime wave has picked up but I don't think it will affect our little village. It's so quiet here. Like, really quiet. HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOO, FRIENDS?

Well, I might go. Under other circumstances one might be concerned about crime, being a young lady coming home at night, but nothing could possibly happen in our little village, could it?

Now, I may be no big-city lawyer, but it seems a bit too early to start on the lynching, yet. Let's wait until after the dance, then we can get to the lynching.

A pasta-waffle-llama-mama-barn dance in the middle of a crime wave? Not thank you! I'll stay at home and peek suspiciously out from my curtains.

Pssh, there's no need to be so paranoid Aeric! This whole "violent murder" thing is just propaganda spread by the cobbler's wife. You see, she thinks that he works late every day as an excuse to get away from her, so she's spreading these rumours so that people won't go out as much, ergo they won't wear down their shoes so much, and then he'll have no excuse. Trust me, I've got this whole thing figured out. Everyone is going to be just fine, and there's absolutely no need to worry about being gruesomely chopped into little pieces that will be spread across the main street spelling a threatening message.

Why is everyone so violent today? ...then again, I would think using a sword on llamas like that is strange. But without their hair how can I get a comfy sweeter for winter?

I am obligated, based on experiences from past games, to (in the absence of a player who is not posting), vote for whomever votes for no lynch. While it may be counter-intuitive, voting for no lynch does not, in fact, help the town. Yes, it may delay the end of the game by a turn, and we are far more likely to accidentally lynch a townsperson than a mafia at this point. However, we learn nothing of people's voting patterns from a no lynch, and investigative roles typically don't come up with anything useful until closer to the endgame. By lynching randomly (assuming no better options) on the first night, information about voting patterns are revealed, there is one less person for an investigator to investigate, and we still stand a 1/4 chance of lynching a member of the mafia.

On the other hand, from the mafia's point of view, trying to force a no lynch as soon as possible means the town wastes a day, and they can generally do it without bringing undo risk or suspicion upon themselves. It also provides more time for townies to turn on each other and our own suspicions, while they hide as a distinct minority, less likely to be targeted (on purpose, or randomly).
So, while it may be brutal, and involve high casualties, experience has taught me that being aggressive in putting momentum behind the game and flushing out the mafia is one of the best ways to tip the odds in the town's favour, instead of dragging the game on for months (when generally everyone not in a special role loses interest).

Thus (at until a better target turns up),

To be honest, I was more trying to stay 'in-character' so to speak by going with the idea of there not having been anything happening yet to deserve a lynching; rather then trying to decide on anyone from the knowledge of this being a game. I'm just not quite sure how this is normally played given this is my first time. *shrug*
