Anyone here playing FF14?

Postby rerout » 03 Jun 2014, 00:31

Just wondering if anyone else here has been playing Final Fantasy 14. I saw threads for a few other MMOs but none for this so I was just curious. I've been really into it lately and I'm hoping to find some more people to play with.

I'm playing on:
Data center: Aether(NA)
Server: Faerie

Character: Naoh Shirogane

Cool, glad to see others here are playing as well. If you guys ever find yourself on my server, feel free to look me up. I'm pretty much on all the time when I'm not at work.

I find as a newcomer, you need to be told that doing all the quests aren't compulsory is really helpful.

I'm following my class quests and main story quests, and I do the side quests only to get up to appropriate level to continue. It saves me from getting fatigue from me doing quest-hub-quest-hub type MMOing.

The aesthetics of the male armour is, different from other games. As a fighter, some "leg" armour is basically a leather speedo. Heh.

The level 11ish Fighter set looks like a gender-switch Cosplay of a Metal Gear character.

It's basically a one piece swimsuit looking thing, with some exposed flesh.

I made me think "what kind of people would find men's legs attractive?" And then I realised, that maybe some people enjoy looking at shapely calves. Ignoring my character's bulge.

I like that they took Secret World's Class system and allow you to act as any class with one character.

I think it's sweet that you need to level up each classes too. This gives a sense of more progression as well as let you learn the class (as opposed to jump in at the deep end).

I started as a Pugilist, but I will switch to a Bard.
The trial caps you at level 20, so when I am a 20 pugilist, I'll switch to Archer. And then switch to lancer (cos you can use lancer skills as a bard).

Trying it out tonight. Download taking forever. Seriously. It fluctuates between 5MB/s and stays at 0.01-0.1 for a few hours.

I maxed Dragoon and Fishing but I got tired of trying to do the content after HM Ifrit because of latency problems. Last I played, the US servers were supposedly hosted somewhere in Canada at a server farm that is notorious for being terrible. It was like playing at ~500ms whenever I needed to dodge a boss ability in a dungeon, which made the end-game content extremely difficult for the wrong reason. I hope it's better now; it was a lot of fun otherwise. It was nice being able to play as a Dragoon or a Monk simply depending on how I felt like playing at the time, and I was looking forward to trying a Thief if/when it came out. I think my other gripes were relatively minor: crafting system (subjective), exploring (invisible walls, no swimming, etc), and leveling secondary classes (there weren't any quests left after the primary, so it was all event grind/zerg).

I loved fishing though, for the first time in an MMO.

The quests in the cities are FedExtreme.

Focus on your class quests and main story quest (Blue ?)

Focus on your Hunter's Log (H) post level 5.

There's levies as well which are like daily quests.

Hey, at least you're not competing against 5736232 people for quest mobs and items >.<

The humour of this game is brilliant.

I had to kill Cactuars for their blood. The item description was "Actually, this clear liquid is far closer to water than it is blood... except, that is, for the cactuar it is taken from. For him it is most definitely blood."

I've decided that I'll be a Summoner, so I am playing an Arcanist. It's basically a Warlock from WoW but life themed instead of death. I'm going dotty over it.

It's cool that you can choose 1 skill from another class to use on your current quest. Currently using the Aero DoT from the Conjurist (like a Holy Druid).

I love how every single Final Fantasy from the first is referenced in this game. From Warriors of Light to Squall's scar in character customisation.

It's cool that they used the purge of the old MMO as a plot point in the new. Very making the most out of the bad.

I'm really impressed by the quality of the localization. There are tons of western cultural references everywhere. A member of an old warrior clan talks about "meeting interesting people and killing them", a quest where you take a dead NPC back to her village called "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie"...

I like that the side quests (no the main ones), aren't awful. They're often your standard Collect, Cill, Conquer, Celiver, but they don't take long, and you often don't have to move that far. And they're not compulsory like side quests are in other MMOs.
It's always good to give option for gaining exp.

The FATEs are good too. They remind me as a less expansive GW2 event system. They're static, they don't chain or anything.

I bought it too.

You can level up other classes to 20 for free too, make the most of your trial time. It's a free £4.4955555555555555555555555555555555... if you use up the whole fortnight.

Gives you a wider option of what Job you want to take up. Originally I wanted to be a Bard, then decided Black Mage and now settled on Summoner.

Glad to see you guys are enjoying the game. Just out of curiosity what servers are you all playing on? If you're all on the same one I wouldn't mind making a secondary character if you guys want someone else to join you.
