Mafia Queue
Re: Mafia Queue
I would have much more time to run my game if there is another one first, so I think Tapir running here would be good
Re: Mafia Queue
Hey guys, sorry for the delay. I was away for a few days but back now and I'll try to have something up as soon as I can.

Re: Mafia Queue
I may or may not have an idea for a game. It'll have a bit of a twist to it but mostly vanilla.

Re: Mafia Queue
Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at the last few pages, I believe Elvor is up next.
Here's the order, from what I can tell:
elvor
iamafish
AdmiralMemo
Kapol? (he was unsure if he'd run Game of Thrones mafia, though there was lots of interest from other possible runners if he chooses not to.)
EikoandMog
JackSlack

Re: Mafia Queue
Right, I might run the Game of Thrones mafia, but I also had the idea of a sort of Ninja vs Samurai (or maybe vs Pirates, or maybe all three?) idea. So I'll wait until it's my turn to go before I make any decisions.

Re: Mafia Queue
I'd like to run another one sometime as well, if I may? I have an idea that will be considerably less unbalanced than my last one.

Re: Mafia Queue
I will add you to the list. Since I don't think Allen! visits the forum much these days, I think the best way to track the order is just for someone to copy the previous list and add their name on the end when they want to do a new game. Does that sounds like a good system to everyone?

I haven't designed my game fully yet, but it's not hugely complex. I'll put the sign up sheet up soon and get working.

Re: Mafia Queue
I don't know where else might be good to post, but I don't think that having unlimited-time days is a good idea. These are the reasons why:
-Stalling is a valid tactic for mafia members
-It slows the game as most the time people don't feel the need to vote quickly if there's no time limit
-It makes it easy for the thread to be forgotten about since you don't need to check it regularly
That's just how I see it though. I understand why it's important since people can't always post. I just don't think it's the best option.

Re: Mafia Queue
I tend to agree. It means it's pretty easy for games to lose their flow when there's no reason to keep things going at a decent pace. It hasn't really been a problem yet because people notice and start pushing, but I think it's something to keep in mind.

Re: Mafia Queue
I agree with Kapol in theory. However, if there's sufficient movement and discussion, I don't see any reason to limit it. If it stalls, though, like you say, that becomes a reason for the GM to step in and speed up progress.
In fact, I'm going to do so now, just to get things going beyond the first day.

Re: Mafia Queue
It's not just stalling the game. It's the fact that it gets rid of the Mafia's ability to stall out a day in order to avoid lynching one of their own or being suspicious. That's one of the fairly few methods they have, especially late-game.

I think I might have to pull myself from the list, the idea I had for the game I wanted to run has completely cleared from my head and well, I've been awol for while from these forums.

Re: Mafia Queue
I'll start working on my game before too long. I'm just not sure what to do... I don't want to do one based on an IP. I could do a sequel to the first I did... but that seems kind of bad. So I'll think on it.

Re: Mafia Queue
Yeah. I haven't seen/read enough of it to feel comfortable making a Mafia game based on it. I've decided I'm going to try avoiding licensed IPs. But if I come up with a good idea, I'll use it. Like I'm thinking of one based on Mario that might be good. But I'm just not sure yet.
