Oh, and saw a comment over on the Escapist.

"That was final fantasy 6, not three, or is that part of the joke?"

I cried a little. Mostly because it made me feel old.

It might just be because i've played the game but...

Best Unskippable Ever.

I would like to see some more older games. I know they took some flak for the PSOne game they did but I think Snes is the perfect platform for Unskipable. Just because they are old doesn't mean there aren't terrible cutscenes.

Must have been hard to riff with all text for dialog.

I miss when Biggs and Wedge were in the opening scene of every Final Fantasy game. (Must have been a running gag by the translation team I guess.)

Ah, a pleasant surprise. Well played good sirs.

Also: I seem to recall the mechs being powered by magicite or something like that. I really need to play that game again.

Final Fantasy III? Or Final Fantasy 6?

Postby Kirkygirl » 29 Mar 2010, 19:16

Um, I think that FFXI was originally released in Japan, then released in North America as FFIII. Hence why there is such a big jump in quality between the second and third Final Fantasy games.

Anyways...great joke Paul and Graham. Nice work. "If you ask that one more time, even if it's just to be cute..." made me lol so much. Reminds me of my own mispent youth annoying the teachers on camping trips. :P

So does this open up any sprite based game for the Unskippable treatment?
~I'm probably not serious~
Oh and you can just call me Dave.
No need for the whole screen name.

Way to win. I loved it, more than I could one on FFXIII, seeing as I actually liked FFVI (or III, If you insist on going by American version alone)

Speaking of April Fool's, which is tomorrow here, ENN is tomorrow.

Oh god.

Edit: No one caught me on this. I forgot March had 31 days.

This genuinely made my day! Was definitely not expecting it.

I'm also really glad that it was FF6/3 instead of FF13, because in a little over a fortnight I'm getting the game myself, and half of me didn't want to watch the video so that I could hold out for the actual game. Fortunately my girlfriend was here to talk sense into me and we watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Good show guys! Try it again in a few months time when the hype has died down?

Nice one. I was looking forward to seeing how awful FF13 was going to be but 3 was made quite silly regardless.

This looked familiar, similar to the only FF game I've ever played. But that one was for the SNES & numbered six or seven. It had the opera in the middle. Yeah, it's been a while.

Would have being six, seven was the Playstation one. I think Matt's talked about that opera scene on the podcast at some point too.

Matt was gushing about how well the vocal synthesis matched up with the music in the song, despite the fact that it was originally written in Japanese. Jer eventually stopped him.

So this wasn't the one I played? I thought 3 would have been on the NES.

Having played the FF3 remake on DS recently I was pretty confused for the first minute or so.

Considering they did the Unskippable April Fool's yesterday, I don't think its that much of a stretch to do ENN and ZP AFs tomorrow.

Yeah, I realized that about 30 minutes before you posted that. I kept thinking March had 30, but whatever, that's not important.

probably not, i was mostly responding to Vigafre saying AF was tomorrow. I expect that either ENN or ZP or both will do something in honour of AF

Yes it was the one you played, FF6 was released in the US on the SNES as FF3, but released on the PS1 as FF6 again. The real FF3 is actually the one that was recently remade for the DS. It was never released outside of Japan prior to the DS version. I believe the reasoning was that US wouldn't appreciate some of the FFs between the first and 6th, such that only FF4 was released in the US, renamed FF2 and the rest weren't released in the US for the SNES. When the PS1 came around, FF1 and FF2 were released as Final Fantasy Origins, FF4 and 5 were released as Anthology, and FF6 was released on its own with a sampler of FFX for the PS2.

I really enjoyed this one. I think FFVI holds the record for game I have beaten the most times. I should really go back to the GBA version and beat that extra dungeon they added in.

You guys really flip reveresed it. And to paraphrase an old classic:

"April Fool"

"But its not April!"

"Yeah but I could hardly wait with a red hot jape like that under me belt"
