Re: The Accidental War
Posted this to a friend of mine who plays Eve's wall, and his response: "SHIT THAT WAS MY HOME SYSTEM"
"Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not it after all."
Re: The Accidental War
Graham, be honest: How many takes did it take you to get through that EVE story?
If only one, I admire your strength to not burst for laughing.

Loved the EVE story, Never played it myself but I know how into MMOs people can get and have spent allot of money playing them in the past! The screen shot reminded me of a raid gone wrong. A giant space raid.

Every time an EVE story pops up, I wonder why I'm not playing it.

Re: The Accidental War
I played it for a while...until I got to the point where it was more 'work' than 'play'; the running gag that it's 'World of Spreadsheets' isn't too far off the mark - to get to the stage of being able to field even a small capital ship, you've either got to have a pile of friends all working together to mine materials, build and operate refineries, parts manufacturing plants, assembly yards, etc. OR you've gotta pay someone else who's done all these same things.
I think the more telling 'metric' of this is the amount of game time required to make a ship, and in the case of one of those Leviathan-class Titans, like what Dabigredboat accidentally 'Leroy Jenkins'ed on ahead of all his buddies, needs 7800hrs to make that's SEVENTY-EIGHT-THOUSAND hours, almost a YEAR of gameplay.
...thus the motivation of 'the other side' to call EVERYONE in the entire galaxy to all race to Asakai and try to wax one of these plum targets. As it turns out, HBC called up a few rivals, who all agreed to hold a temporary cease-fire and just focus on try to whack DBRB and his very expensive (and empty) ship-transporter.
IIRC, there were almost three-THOUSAND ships in that system; imagine three thousand WoW avatars all converging on a single location to do battle.
...the YouTube videos covering the events are really pretty (well, when edited to account for 'Time Dilation'), and kinda knock Lucas's attempts into a cocked hat.

Re: The Accidental War
I would like to play "World of Spreadsheets", though. Hell, back when I used to play Freelancer, that's basically what my server turned into (or at least my guild) once the admins started accepting resources in exchange for changes/additions to the mods we used, up to and including new systems.

Re: The Accidental War
If the "Burn Jita" campaign has taught me anything is that not only are sociologist studying this game, making notes and writing thesis' on this, but EVE's developers are laughing maniacally
Do you guys mind. I'm trying to write an essay
Its probably not a good thing I feel the need to put a disclaimer after everything I say
This is a thing my and my friend run.

For those of us who don't play EVE Online, could you translate that into real-world terms:
How many Pyro hats were lost in the big huge space debacle?

Re: The Accidental War
I enjoyed the EVE story.
Have GameStop only just started the Digital Codes for the consoles? GAME has been doing it for ages (and it works).

Kathleen does not like the look of the new breakfast cereal Pickled Graham.

Re: The Accidental War
I saw it, presumed it was some subliminal in-joke about what they were talking about, resolved to go back and have a look and completely forgot to. Thanks for reminding me

I'm pretty sure this isn't a new thing for GameStop. I coulda sworn I saw them selling DLC as early as 2010.

Re: The Accidental War
This confirms that I would like to play EVE but wouldn't have time to enjoy it.

Re: The Accidental War
Yeah, apparently many EVE players involved in this are like, "JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS: This is not AT ALL what EVE is like all the time."

The milk gets all curdled, but I just can't stop eating it!

I bet CCP would make some decent money if they released a separate game that WAS just that all the time.

Just noticed the way that URL was truncated.
I don't want to imagine what a dental war is.

Re: The Accidental War
Armies of dentists war over a desolate landscape armed with tiny mirrors and drills, fighting over the only resource that still matters - that horrible blue stuff they use for mouthwash after they're done doing whatever brutal thing in your mouth.
