I looked up the writ of certiorari for the xbox 360 case (the text that asks the supreme court to look at something). From what I can tell, they aren't deciding the disc scratch suit. They're deciding who is legally authorized to decide how the case should be decided. Law can be pretty silly.

Generally speaking, the Supreme Court doesn't rule on individual cases, they rule on matters of law itself. Or rather, they don't care if someone's guilty or innocent, just that they were tried correctly (simplifying greatly, obviously).
