The idea is relatively simple; a multiple of eight people create decks adhering to construction rules inspired by Magic Duels, then I generate brackets (or possibly just pairings, if we'd rather it be a swiss) and simulate games between them, taking notes and writing a colourful combat summary to be posted here. At the end, we could crown a winner based on game results, and/or have a strawpoll for people to vote on their favorite decks.
The deck construction rules for the first run of this (assuming it becomes popular/successful enough to warrant followups) would be as follows:
- Deck size is 60 cards, and sideboards are not used;
- The number of copies of a given card in a list is limited by its rarity;
- 4 for commons
3 for uncommons
2 for rares
1 for mythics - The rarity used to determine the maximum number of copies of a card is the highest it's ever been printed at, including special products;
- Gatherer is recommended for determining this.
- Allowed sets and banned cards are as per the Modern format.
- The goal is fun before competitiveness.
So, what does everyone think? Would anyone like to submit a deck and see this come to fruition?
