Re: IDDQDerp
Well, I think I understand why it's blocked in Canada:
The Long Dark is good at irony. At least YouTube is beta testing a thing that strips copy-written music from videos. Though I've found mixed results in my videos. Don't ask how I know.

Re: IDDQDerp
Since Let's Nope doesn't have its own thread I'll put this here
1) I am so, so thrilled that you are playing Eternal Darkness. It is one of my favorite games, period. You have just started getting into the real meat of the game, and let me tell you it only gets better from here.
2) I really wish I had been in the chat to help out. I only caught the replay yesterday, and it's great, but it seems like there aren't a ton of people who know the game well hanging around (though there are a few). A couple of tips at the right times could have saved some aggravation, though it seems like it went pretty well nonetheless.
3) The one really important tip for the game is that it is really a very linear thing. You will spend the game going through do chapter -> Get new tool -> that specific tool gets you the next chapter page -> do chapter. If you find the next chapter page, you can stop looking for puzzles, because you won't have the tools to do anything else yet.
4) Less critical tip is that it's not really a "puzzle" game in the sense of survival horror puzzles that you're used to. There's no Towers of Hanoi shit in here. It's more like Zelda puzzle solving. Most of the time, the game will drop some kind of hint about the tool you're missing, or tell you when you get the tool what it can be used for, but nearly every puzzle takes the form of get tool > use tool. The tools are varied and fun and interesting, but if you don't immediately feel like you have the tools to solve a given puzzle, it probably means you don't.
I would love to see more of Eternal Darkness on-stream, and I hope you have as much fun with it as I did. The chat accidentally put you on a sort of "hard mode", in that the Xel'atoth (green) path gives you the rune you need to recover health later than either of the other paths. On the other hand, lots of sanity effects. Once you get past I think the next chapter it basically evens out between the paths in terms of difficulty.

When the upkeep takes longer than the main phase, I know I've done my job well.

Re: IDDQDerp
Wow, it's been quiet in here.
Anyways, In light of Alex's recent streaming of Darkest Dungeon, and the subscriber participation a'la Cam's X-COM streams, I figured I'd throw together one of those little signature bar thingies to commemorate the occasion.
If you or someone resembling you have been "volunteered" to go mad and die in Alex's service, feel free to stick this little picture somewheres.
...or we could wait for someone with some... you know... actual talent to make a nice looking one for all us doomed souls

Re: IDDQDerp
Doomed? Who are you calling doomed? I rather ENJOY being an abusive, gambling-addicted healer that skipped out on a needy party before a mission to play a dice game, is into the Dark Arts and who thinks I'm possessed by demons.
I'm not doomed. YOU'RE all the doomed ones.
To reiterate: I'm the healer.

Re: IDDQDerp
I need to rewatch the VOD. I stayed for the first hour, then had to hit the sack due to having a morning class.

Re: IDDQDerp
You know, I'm sure someone said this ages ago when he played through the new Thief, but I'd like to see Alex have a go off one of the classic Thiefs. Thief 3 might be a good pick, but that might just be me having fond memories of crapping my pants in terror at the Shalebridge Cradle.

If he didn't like Thief 2014, I don't see his impression of the rest of the series changing by playing the originals. The Thief series as a whole was kinda weird.

Cam played the original Thief on one of his streams...

We're working on getting this Derpest Dungeon list tamed...
If you haven't been used and want a class and/or name change, now's the time, especially all you "Don't Cares" who need updating.

How do we update?

Re: IDDQDerp
I think all of us have been significantly unnerved by yesterday's surprised stream. Let us never actually bask in the silence.
Re: IDDQDerp
Alex's face at the end of Verde will be kept in my mind for quite a while.
Truly it was a thing of beauty. The game and the face.

Re: IDDQDerp
I mentioned this on chat, but I want to expand a bit. I want more games like DreadOut, so they start to get better.
DreadOut is a prey samy, even mediocre survival horror game: same old clumsy mechanics, same old unnerving environments, same old big boss battles, and some good old spoops. What makes it stand out is that all the imagery is not taken from the standard western-european/japanese culture, and I want more of that.
In fact, I one up myself: The whole industry needs more of that.

Re: IDDQDerp
Does anyone have a link to Alex's google-doc on his route with his current Dark Souls Run, with the "Chinese Grave Sword?"
Re: IDDQDerp
So yeah, as a heads-up apparently all the servers for Killing Floor 2 are full right now, in case co-op was planned for tonight's stream. They're working on trying to get more up and running right now, though. (They have apparently double the players they were expecting on right now, and it's still mid-day. Imagine tonight when people get home from work.)
Re: IDDQDerp
had a quick suggestion for another game that Alex may like, Spirits of Xanadu
http://store.steampowered.com/app/312230/
a horror game so it might also work for a Let's Nope, but supposed to be more on the psychological side of things than the jump scare side, kind of reminiscent of Verde Station
quick video of Jesse Cox playing it for those curious what it's like

Apparently Silent Hills has been canceled. If Alex wants to play P.T. on stream, it needs to be purchased soon (if it hasn't been already). Apparently it's being taken off the PlayStation Store on April 29th.

Hey Alex! Just curious as a Non-chat observer of past videos i have a question and a video suggestion for you!, 1 How far have you gotten into bloodborne? as you said you were perhaps playing it on stream after finishing it solo right?
I'd really like to see you durdle around using the reiterpallasch & Evelynn once your done with the first playthrough *There's a sequence breaking glitch you can use to get these weapons right at the start* there's a good video on said glitch by vaatividya and on how to get several other weapons as well really early on and well, it would be fun seeing you do a bloodborne playthrough using the non standard weapons cause of derpglitches from the start, seems in theme with your stream & all
Don't use the chat - Can't dispense the salt. Flawless strats

Re: IDDQDerp
I still want to see Graham/Alex/both play the MMORPG expansion. I know Kathleen, Ian, Cori, and Chris didn't care for it as much, but it'd be fun to see them mess around with it. That said, GOATZ seems like it'll be more of the same fun goofy time. By the way, I'm fairly impressed they keep adding value to that game. Good on them.
Re: IDDQDerp
Game suggestion: Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
I've been enjoying Alex's Dark Soul streams and I think Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts would be a nice follow up to that.

If we're suggesting games for alex, this might be up his ally: http://store.steampowered.com/app/368140
It's a Japanese 2D Platyformer made by Desunoya, who Touhou fans may know from his earlier games like Fantasy Explorer Nitroid and Marissa and Alice Trap Tower.
