I agree with Ranakel, Recettear could be quite fun.

Also, I would like to suggest Long Live The Queen. It's a visual novel-JRPG where you play a queen in waiting and you must prepare for your reign by learning about intrigue, court manners, swordplay, etc. while fending off assassins. I think it it's pace and atmosphere will fit a GPLP nicely.

Adding another vote for Recettear, it's hilarious, fun to play, and fun to watch.

Binary Domain. It really didn't get the appreciation it deserved when it came out, but it's a really awesome game with a ton of weird Japanese... weirdness (the obligatory robo-spider boss, for instance) and at least for me, some actual emotional hooks. Also, you can have a french robot in your team.
It's even on sale on the humble bundle now.

...or Vanquish, Vanquish is awesome as well. Man, I should go back and finish Vanquish.

I completely agree. While not quite as polished as Vanquish or Spec Ops, it was one of the few cover-based shooters that didn't feel like a complete slog (i.e. Gears of War). The story could be a bit overwrought at times, but it was more competently put together than your average shooter.

It really deserved to sell better than it did :(

Ranakel wrote:Something that comes to mind are the games translated/edited by Carpe Fulgur: Chantelise -which I haven't played, so can't say much about it-, Recettear -which is an item shop sim with a dungeon crawler thrown in there- and Fortune Summoners -which is a pretty hard sidescroller action RPG- All the joys of the dialogues, without the turn-by-turn combat.

I played Chantelise, it was fun enough but very rough around the edges, I doubt they'd enjoy it very much and I can't say it'd make for that great of a stream whether or not they did.

Recettear is great, but it falls into the Atelier game problem: The "ending" isn't really that much of an ending. You pay off your debt, Tear realizes how pathetic Recette is and sticks around, and the game continues on in endless mode, and if you're playing for the first time, chances are very few of the game's numerous subplots will be resolved by that time. There are two proper ending-like entities in the dungeon storylines, but those would probably take too long and would make for a lot of lengthy streams where they didn't get much done considering how long the last few dungeons are.

As for Fortune Summoners... I never really enjoyed it much at all. The controls felt clunky and awkward and the AI seemed hopeless. Maybe I just didn't get used to it, but I can't imagine them having a good time with that one either.

If we want an action-RPG, might I recommend one of the Ys games? They're all relatively short with very little grinding needed (as long as you're not playing on nightmare difficulty or something). Ys 1 and 2 are part of a set, so if you play one I'd advise playing the other as well, they're pretty interesting but also kinda odd, there's no attack button, you just hit enemies by running into them, and if you run into them head-on it hurts you too. They're relatively easy outside of the boss battles, but they're fun nonetheless. I'd probably advise Ys Origin, which lacks the "help a bunch of villagers with a bunch of tasks" bit since it takes place entirely inside of a tower of demons, and has some great combat (especially the boss battles). There's also Oath in Felghana and Memories of Celceta... neither of which I have played yet, but they seem cool too.

Also if you play Origin, play as the girl. The guy and girl are two totally different characters with different personal storylines and playstyles (same dungeon and overall plot, though), and the guy is just a douche with a way worse playstyle than the girl.

They could play Banished. Nothing like 3 hours of watching little people roam around a village going about their daily lives, while you yell at your screen to "Go get food from storage if you are starving! You will die soon. There's food in stora....where'd all the food go? Which of you greedy bastards took all the food?! Damnit, he died from starvation! Thanks alot! Now I need a new gatherer. How did a gatherer die from starvation anyway? His job is to gather food!"
Fun times.

What do you guys think about the game El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron?

Or for that matter Lollipop Chainsaw?

Co-op mode for Double Dragon: Neon.

Drunken Robot Pornography seems like it could be entertaining.

I have mixed feels about El Shaddai as a GPLP, personally. I quite enjoyed the game, and there is a lot to make fun of, but the gameplay gets extremely repetitive and might not be as much fun to watch for the however many hours it takes to beat. On the other hand there are some things in the plot that they would never stop laughing at.

I think there should be at least one Suda 51 game on GPLP at some point. I've heard Killer Is Dead is pretty catastrophic in some regards but at least fun to play.

So iirc you guys mentioned on stream that you had considered Epic Mickey 2 for GPLP.

I played some of that with my 10-yr-old cousin on the Wii and while it has serious problems, overall I think it could be a good choice, assuming that the controls are better on other platforms than on the Wii. We had some issues getting controls to work consistently. Also, the camera kept pissing us off.

But it was a fairly charming game with plenty of stuff to make fun of, and it would be cool to see you guys play another co-op type game. The co-op in Epic Mickey 2 is at least better than in Beyond: Two Souls. =P

While I'm always down for some of that awesome game, its lack of an actual plot - the stupider the better - doesn't really lend itself to a GPLP.

They've had it too easy lately. They need to play a Sonic game. '06, Unleashed, Black Knight.

Unleashed is probably the most amenable to the unskippable treatment; 06 is mainly funny because it plays like a shitty beta of a game, and that doesn't translate well to comedy (with limited exceptions).

I don't know much about Black Knight, but I know it doesn't have a goddamn werehog, sooooo....
