What the frig even is myrrh anyway?

Great video though - thoroughly hilarious, and probably a lot more accurate than the original. Featherweight's art really tied it all together - I totally felt the anger, the disappointment, the heartbreak... the whole roller coaster.

Myrrh is used in ancient Jewish burial customs to help the body decompose quickly. They'd store the body in a tomb with it (and other stuff) for a year, then unearth it again and collect the remains in a smaller box and bury that.

"And thanks a lot for the gold and frankincense, er, but don't worry too much about the myrrh next time."

...is what immediately popped into my head as she started to complain about the drum.

BTW, one thing I noticed was when the opening logo faded away, the c2014 changed for a moment into c2012. Does that always happen?

That was a nice slow build up to hilarity. I especially like Featherweight's distressed Lamb and Ox :P

And I think that was the best holiday wishes I have ever had.

I have to admit that this video fell flat for me. The video look and sounded excellent but did not seem like there was enough humour.

Having just performed in a "LARP Nativity" (live nativity + script + in-character ad-libbing + a crap-ton of walking), I can add to this by quoting Wise Man #1: "It is a resin which is used as an ingredient in the holy anointing oil in the Temple—appropriate for One who is to come from Heaven." (The oil was used to anoint high priests and kings, so it's symbolic.)

Being as attached as I am to the Christmas story, I really appreciated that this stayed respectful, and that I can share this with my church friends.

Thanks, Paul, for your fun lyrics, and Featherweight for your lovely art.
It's not epic unless it's dactylic hexameter.

I was almost expecting an ad for the Patreon to be tacked on to the video.

Here are lyrics, if anybody wants to sing along. (Any corrections, Drs. LRR?)

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A newborn King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum
When we come

Finally my chance, pa rum pum pum pum
To make a new king dance, a rum pum pum pum
I'll lay down such a beat, pa rum pum pum pum
To make them tap their feet
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

It's my time to drum, pa rum pum pum pum
Here it comes

Mary shook her head, pa rum pum pum pum
I thought that meant to play, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
'Til Mary grabbed my arm, pa rum pum pum pum
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

She shouted at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum

How was that a gift?! Pa rum pum pum pum
The wise men brought great stuff, pa rum pum pum pum
Even the myrrh was fine, pa rum pum pum pum
Why would we want to hear
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

Over and over, pa rum pum pum pum
On that stupid drum

Then the baby woke, pa rum pum pum pum
He cried and Joseph said, pa rum pum pum pum
We just got him to bed, pa rum pum pum pum
You know what helps him sleep?
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

Loud percussive noise, pa rum pum pum pum
Like your drum

That was sarcastic, pa rum pum pum pum
Never play again, pa rum pum pum pum
Then Mary broke my sticks, pa rum pum pum pum
This is for all mankind
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

They took turns yelling, pa rum pum pum pum
At me and my drum

At they last they finished, pa rum pum pum pum
It got real quiet, pa rum pum pum pum
I thought they might hurt me, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb were tense
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

Suddenly Mary smiled, pa rum pum pum pum
Smiled at my drum

I really needed that, pa rum pum pum pum
It's just I've been so stressed, pa rum pum pum pum
Sometimes it's nice to vent, pa rum pum pum pum
I guess your gift was best
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

Now please promise me, pa rum pum pum pum
You'll give up that drum

Speaking as someone who has young children, I can totally empathize there. If someone wanted to give me children late night drumming as their Christmas present, they would get thrown out so fast it would make their head swim.

Although I would probably just not let them inside the stable in the first place...

It wasn't "funny", but it was Paul singing, and incredibly well produced, so I'm still appoint.

Something involving Paul singing has to be in that Patreon Mystery Box of yours. It's a real shame how rarely he sings in the videos proper (though given that most of your song videos are parodies of some sort, it's understandable).

I am guessing Paul/Featherweight are not drummers. While drumsticks do break occasionally after extensive use (mainly if the style includes a lot of hard rim strikes like marching bands play), breaking a single stick by hand because you want to is not something people really can do, let alone two at once without an ax or saw.

Super slow, but very fun all the way through. Also, dinosaur sweater!

Paul has a super pretty voice, btw. This should be used more often. It would make me happy.

Loved it.
The art was fantastic, it's great to hear Paul singing, and the writing was funny(Also, I liked the stinger). I can't quite put my finger on exactly what was funny about it, but I definitely liked it. :)

It's possible that they were cheap ancient drumsticks and Mary was actually pretty strong(Plus, in the video, she's very angry).

You obviously haven't experienced the fury of a parent seeing their child woken from a much needed sleep :)

Not bad, but one of the weaker sketches this year, I think. Nice art from Featherweight. Very funny stinger.

This one fell a little flat for me. We don't really have christmas carols over here, so I've never actually heard the original, which I guess made it a little hard to relate to the humor.
