Because general discussion is the territory of the ninjas. The pirates have retaken all the other forums, and are soon to launch their final assault- however they have not yet done so and hence this is the wrong forum.

Not gonna lie, my hopes were up a lot higher..
I was expecting lots of "yarrs" and "arrs" and other pirate words, not an actually serious political parrrty.

Interesting idea but it'll never go anywhere. Especially since their platform only contains statements about copyright and privacy. Honestly I don't think this is a big enough issue with enough Canadians to even get much media coverage.

The Pirate Party is a big deal in the Pirate Bay trials. They're all about software/music piracy and making the punishments less retarded large.

The major political parties of Canada (Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Green... OK kidding about that last one), already have a variety of opinions and policies on the subject. They also have platforms that deal with far more important subjects, such as health care, economic issues, defense, arctic sovereignty, education, and kittens.

Here, I dug up some soundbites from their policies;

NDP;
Ensure that new copyright reform legislation fairly addresses compensation for artistic creators and includes proper input from all affected stakeholders including: arts/artist groups, educators, software innovators, consumer groups and ordinary Canadians.

Conservative (also note Bill C-10, their idea);
A re-elected Conservative Government led by Stephen Harper will reintroduce federal
copyright legislation that strikes the appropriate balance among the rights of musicians,
artists, programmers and other creators and brings Canada's intellectual property
protection in line with that of other industrialized countries, but also protects consumers
who want to access copyright works for their personal use.

We will also introduce tougher laws on counterfeiting and piracy and give our customs
and law enforcement services the resources to enforce them. This will protect
consumers from phoney and sometimes dangerous products that are passed off as
reliable brand-name goods.

(Couldn't find Liberal's policy on their website.

The pirate party is devoted to change on that one issue, and are the only ones with as specific a stance and goal on that issue.

If you base your voting on this one issue, then you are stupid. Also, note edited post above.

i agree. i find that most of these types of parties don't have a very complete platform, but then again their goal isn't to be voted into government(because they know it's impossible and don't have enough funding) but rather to maybe land one seat so they can voice their opinions
we sometimes catch a window, a glimpse of what's beyond

The idea is a lot more based on activism / getting visibility than getting a politician into office. If there appears to be a sizable group of people willing to support a cause, the other parties are bound to pay more attention to that cause.
