Meetup Thread

Postby ecocd » 18 Sep 2009, 05:24

Ir occurs to me, that there's the opportunity for a lot of overlap in interests from the forumites and it might be worth starting a thread for people to post if they're going to be attending a show or con. There might be another LRR fan going and could arrange meet up before, during or after the show. Since fans are a bit far flung outside of Victoria, it's pretty fun to get the opportunity to meet new fans.

To get it started, D-Girl and I are seeing Kevin Smith in Chicago tonight and I'm wondering if any other LRR fans are going to be there.

Additionally, Jonathan Coulton will be playing a show in Chicago on Saturday, October 10th and I'm thinking about going. Anyone else thinking about attending?

I am living in Chicago now but I don't have the time or money to see Kevin Smith tonight. I would like to hang out with you Chicago peoples though.

I'll be at Windy City Comicon Saturday afternoon because I want to meet John Campbell.

This is a fantastic thread. When an event I can afford to go to comes up, I will be sure to drop a line here. And, of course, I'll keep an eye on it if someone else is attending a thread I'd like to go to.

I live far, far, away from any other forumites.

Hopefully I'll be able to get a work term in Toronto or BC this summer.

While you're probably accurate in your assessment, I think there always going to be people like jtaylor. I didn't know (s)he lived in Chicago. btw, I know Fuzzyfreaker lives in Chicago and Evil Jim makes it down for a fair number of shows. If you're on twitter, follow Fuzzyfreaker and Evil_Jim (I'm ecocd but don't tweet much).

In my experience, if a band is sufficiently obscure people are willing to travel (a) long distances and (b) to the middle of nowhere to see them. And people that live in the middle of nowhere are often the most likely to travel to see a show or concert. In all cases, I think it's worth a note here if you care to meet another LRR fan.

As far as Kevin Smith goes, yeah it was a fair amount of money. gf and I are blowing our entertainment budget for the month on it, but she was able to pre-order tickets and got some sweet box seats for it. It would be awesome if I could get him to tweet @James_LRR about how much the Canucks are going to suck this year.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to afford to see Kevin Smith tonight. I walked down to the box office to see if any of the $18 tickets had opened up, but to no avail. Maybe I'll just stand outside and mug somebody.

Also, I will be at that JoCo concert come October 10th, so if anybody wants to meet up there, it should be an awesome time.

Oh! And to compensate for my inability to get into Kevin Smith's shindig, me and (I'm pretty sure) Evil Jim will be at the midnight screening of The Muppet Movie at the Music Box Theater in Chicago tonight.

Attention NYC-area LRRfans! I am going to be hanging with friends who are going to the NYAF (New York Anime Festival) next weekend (September 25-27) and can be convinced to meet briefly on either Friday or Saturday night for a drink or two.

Anyone wanna meetup?

Well there's Wraith and Siobhan obviously, and I seem to recall a couple others too (that became friends, not got together).

Haven't met any of you yet (except morgan, but he is not really a forumite) but I have made friends out of quite a few of them, they know who they are ^-^
