Doomsday Arcade

Okay I freaking LOVE this show! Being released every alternate Thursday I am so wrapped up in it! Its easily the best serial (as in a show with an over-arching plot etc) on the Escapist and possibly one of the better ones on the web. The characters are hilarious but also you kinda respect them and are defined enough for you to gain some sort of attachment.

I just watched last weeks episode and theres this awesomely atmospheric little section in the middle while "the dice-lord" describes what he see's happening in the future and I though that was so great (I'm a sucker for serious, well-made montages, one of the reasons I still watch wrestling by the by) that I thought I'd post a quick thread seeing what you guys think of the show.

If you don't know what Im talking about or haven't gotten round to seeing it yet then http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/doomsday-arcade

Make sure to watch from episode 1.

So, please discuss. I reckon it's awesome from top to bottom!

Yeah, Doomsday Arcade is pretty spiffy. Most of the shows on the escapist are.
The first episode isn't all that great, but the show gets better as it goes along. I really like how they make references to the other shows on there. Like the Unskippable Dead Raising bit in the zombie episode. The general ways they find to break the 4th wall are aways amusing too.

Yeah I was gonna say, 4th wall breaking in a series is kind of a cheap way to get humour but they do it pretty well any road.

I find their delivery and timing so funny.

Love the black-and-white to colour light switch, as well.

Some of their humor is a little... lower brow... but they are entirely enjoyable.

Personally I'm more of a "There Will Be Brawl" person. Especially with the latest episode. I won't spoil it, but all hell breaks loose.

There will be brawl is cool but its kinda slow going you know? Im not really sure when their update schedule is but its not very often as far as I can see.

Wow I had so much to say about these guys and I guess everyone else just feels that they're good 'nuff said kinda thing.

I guess, with the latest episode being the best yet (in my opinion).

Though Cooking Mama was terrifying.

Edit: BTW, did anyone notice the elevator they're in at the end? "Schindler Lifts". I know its a real firm, but I found it funny nonetheless for a resistance/sanctuary group to have that.

Yeah I guess so. If you ain't for some reason then go do it. Now!

Oh yeah that was fucked up! I liked how they represented the FEAR girl as just being kinda annoying with the constant boo-scares.

The random occasional incredibly posh guys also make me chuckle "I'm Lord British!"

heh Yeah, it's great that there are only like 6 or 7 regular people that play most of the parts.

'Lord British is going into space!' :D

(btw, Lord British is the name Richard Garriot uses for himself when he's playing his games I think)

I'm another very big fan of Doomsday Arcade, although I'm not sure that I like the way the series has been going recently: the few TF2 episodes were incredible, but the series now seems to have just got a little bit fucked up, and some of the wonderful 4th wall breaking humour seems to have disappeared.
Still an avid watcher though.

At first the overacting was a bit grating on my nerves but now I just enjoy it as parody.

Also, the Dice Lord was an awesome use of effects. Though, in general they have some pretty sweet digital goodies throughout.

The Dicelord is awesome:

"On a subatomic scale all physical mechanism are governed by the random nature of quantum mechanics"

"With a simple flick of my head I determine every event; I know every event; [deep voice] I define every event"

"With luck, probability, quantum decoherence, but most of all with a dice-roll"

"Perform search check"
"DC of seven"

"NOT ONE SINGLE HIT. Your atrribute's not high enough for ONE SINGLE HIT!"

"These events I've already calculated, we are merely going through the motions. Neither one of us will kill the other."

Okay, necroing the topic.

So what do you think concerning the last question in the newest episode?

My thought: Toad is a minor character and minor characters cannot kill main characters. Though that doesn't explain the lack of pain the their part.

#180094, BTW. I was thinking mostly the same thing, a continuation of 'Toad is a worthless bitch-face' (or whatever they call him).

And the Dice Lord (and his whole scene) was an epic, epic win. I was getting consistently less impressed with the previous few episodes, but that one made everything better  .

ACTUALLY, for both Re'ozul AND Ottoman, there are now {spoiler} tags. They are at the top of the edit window, and automatically make the text match the background color (whether blue or white).

See: SPOILER!!

Hmmm I just watched the ep and that is kind of a toughy aint it? Who knows? It could be anything. Maybe its connected in with their dark past or whatever. Doesn't have to be a game mechanic.

Oh and the guy who plays Tom rocks. He's the dude who plays all the weird posh characters, and the Fallout 3 guy. Phunny stuff.
