I can't even remember the last time my family actually had turkey for Thanksgiving. Probably because somewhere along the line we realized that none of us particularly like turkey all that much.

So instead, it became a family tradition to take the roaster pot thing you normally cook the turkey in, and instead make inside it an EPIC lasagna that is only unworthy of a Man Cooking episode because it has no bacon in it.

For now.

I love Turkey, it's just people screw it up so damn often. Dry turkey is gross. Well prepared turkey is GREAT.

For my family, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals start at roughtly 4pm and end around 7 or 8pm. We have all the appetizers, shrimp cocktail, veggie platters, etc, then around 5:30pm we all sit down and eat. I still sit at the kids table (mainly because all the parents sit at the adults table, and the next youngest after me or my cousin Chrystal is a freshman in high school), but both tables have a metric fucktonne of food. Turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes, crescent rolls, and about 8 different veggies.

Follwing that up with cake, pie and ice cream.

The REAL reason Canadians have Thanksgiving in October? We like to spread out our big family dinners, so we have time to work off a) the memory of having to sit next to your crazy relatives all dinner and b) the massive amount of turkey weight you put on.

America doesn't, hence, national obesity.

Also, this year, I'm thankful for second chances.

Hoooooly crap, Siobhan made the most amazing thanksgiving dinner tonight, with limited resources and our little coffee table, which was decked out like a festive fall banquet table when I got home for work (she secretly bought a bunch of decorations when we went to the dollar store). My first Canadian thanksgiving was a big hit. Can't wait to treat her to her first American one.

That's right. Hot Irish/Canadian calendar model. And she cooks like Gordon Ramsey without the attitude. I'm keepin her.

Canadians are not all the beautiful people you see on the interwebs. We're just better at hiding people. More space with which to do so, y'know.

Yes, and I'm sure she enjoys that you only keep her because she cooks and she's pretty.

Cute SUPER INTIMIDATING couple.

Just sayin', calendar model and dude with muscles the size of my whole goddamn torso makes for me feeling inadequate.

I can't list the rest of the reasons I keep her. I'm only allowed 60,000 characters.

Due to expensive internet in fucking Bruges, I did not have this thread to remind me that it was Thanksgiving.

I love that I get two Thanksgivings, Canadian and US.

I'm heading down next month to spend the holiday with my fiance and his family.

It is worth a visit but you do not want to spend more than a day or two. It is a pretty small town.
