The final laundry of the '00s and other tales of the clean
Well folks, I sit here in the strangest subterranean laundry may in New York City (which I call such because of the full power 3G in five bars of glory which I currently am enjoying despite being in a basement), with my cell phone out, headphones up, and my final load of laundry for this decade spinning in that crazy harlequin of spin cycle we call life (here being used in perhaps its most rare and misleading senses to mean 'inanimate, side-loading, commercial class tumble washer'). Now, of course when I say last load of laundry, I mean last three loads of laundry. Note that this leaves two loads of dirty laundry and a full clean closet of clothes 11 floors above me in my 10m by 10m studio apartment. I have no idea how I ended up with so much clothing, but let me tell you it makes it even worse to be the kind of guy who waits till he has no more clothes to do his washing. Case in point, one of these full loads of laundry currently experiencing what I have always imagined to be a concoction equal parts bubble bath and 2001: A Space Oddyssey climax is only made up entirely of socks and underthings. What can a man, or indeed any human need with that many socks? Anyways, as I sit here in the middle of my last desperate attempt at cleaning up my NYC place before heading out west to LA for Xmas, fully equipped with a copy of Douglas Adams Last Chance to See (just in case I want laugh at animals whose entire spieces I have a good chance of outlasting) , I find myself wondering if anyone else has some yarns to unspool of epic and preferably failed attempts to keep stuff clean.
Now, if you'll pardon me, I have some heat spiral mechanisms to load and activate.

You washed your laundry with Life? What, were you out of soap flakes?
Sorry that's a HORRIBLE joke.

Epocalypse, I too am a huge clotheshorse. I am a dude. nothing to be ashamed of. Hell, if I ad money, I was more likely to just go out to the mall or wherever to get underwear if I was running low. When I moved home, I did a clothes purge, and I STILL have a closetful of clothes and 8 drawers full of clothes.
Of course it doesn't help when you worked at a men's clothing store and got a sick discount on really nice clothes.

I did a major clean/purge of the livingroom and kitchen today. It looks phenominal. Tomorrow is the bedroom and bathroom, and then wednesday I will be baking all sorts of Christmas goodies that I really shouldn't be eating - but will anyways.

Re: The final laundry of the '00s and other tales of the clean
Siobhan, that was my Saturday, baking rediculous amounts of cookies with my mom. Our damage report is: three shapes of spritz butter cookies, Chocolate chip Walnut, Choc. Chip with milk and semi-sweet chips, oatmeal craisin, and oatmeal scotchies (butterscotch chips). The week before, baking bread for my church's Christmas dinner. Took to days to make, very awesome flavor and texture. I'm starting to think I should go back to school and get a culinary arts degree, because of how much I love to bake.
I kinda promised my mom that I'd have my bedroom cleaned up for Christmas. I'm 24 and living at home, but to her credit, my room is pretty trashed because I still have boxes to go through from when I moved home. In JUNE.

Three loads of NYC laundry? How much did that cost you?
Why do I love the blinking street lights so much?

Re: The final laundry of the '00s and other tales of the clean
In my uni house I am currently sharing the one washer/dryer with seven other girls, and it takes an AGE to clean anything. We have to book well in advance, and I am a highly disorganised person.
At least, that's my excuse for lugging a suitcase and a half of mostly unwashed clothing on a three hour train journey to wash at home...

I was going to switch my baking to today so I could take some as gifts to my church dinner, but Wraith accidentally picked up "vegetable spread" instead of butter for me. Poor lug was fooled by the picture. Do you have photos of everything you baked? I'm going to start a christmas baking thread for us ahha.
Now, I'm thinkign about taking a nap instead of doing client photos and cleaning. Must... not... sleep.
When I do my laundry in New York, I only do it in Brooklyn. O.O

"vegetable spread"? Like margarine? I bake with that all the time - it's cheaper, and it allows me to make vegan goodies for all my dietarily restricted friends.
This year I made:
4 batches of fudge - 1 white chocolate peppermint, 1 white chocolate maple (which didn't go to a hard set, so it became "taffy", and 2 dark chocolate
Mango coconut cookie bars
White Chocolate Cranberry cookie bars
lemon coconut icebox cookies
I make some pretty danged good chai spice shortbread. I may still make a batch of that.

Yes it's just margerine. I find amusement in the words vegetable spread though.
I usually do bake with margerine, but these specific recipies do way better with real butter.
Also, the margerine he picked up has 2g of Trans fat per 1 tbsp. So I really don't want to be using that anyhow.

I just wanted to note that mathematically, 2010 is still part of this decade.
So you still have a year of loads left to do. :p

Mathematically indeed, but I think decades are the hardest sale of any time increment for that point. Do you think anyone really takes seriously the idea that 1980 is part of the '70s? However, you are of course technically correct, since there is no year zero in the gregorian calendar, the first decade wa 1-10 ce and so on.
On your second point about being able to do more laundry this decade because of that fact, well, don't be too sure.
