Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
I had one of those in my bedroom. Granted, not that big. Nonetheless they are fucking gross and scary. I LIKE crickets and grasshoppers. The south has ridiculous monster spider crickets that sound like a million bats on fire in purgatory. They are seriously so loud that when one hangs outside the window in the den it gives me a jump when it chirps and I'm all the way in the living room.
Does anyone else want to give it a top hat, bow and umbrella and name it Jiminy? *cue the photoshop wizzards*

Giant Weta is adorable :3.
The shininess is a little off putting (too much like crickets), but I like grasshoppers and katydids and the like (Orthoptera, except crickets, 'cause fuck crickets).

Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
I am displeased with the state of the world because I found a spider the size of the palm of my hand just chillin' on the driver's side back window of my car the other night. It was too dark to see what kind of spider it was, but though it's probably not dangerous, it's still too big and creepy for my liking. I was a bit creeped out but figured that if I just hopped in my car and drove home (I was at the hospital at the time) it would, I don't know, go away and stop bothering me. It was still there when I got home, but when I came out the following day, it didn't seem to be there anymore. Cool! Until I saw it scamper up my rear windscreen while driving to work. I haven't seen it since but I still haven't relaxed... it could be there somewhere, biding its time.
Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
If its a huge spider in Australia it's prob just a Huntsman. Still scary buggers though even if you know that. Though if it is as big as you said then I think it's a female. Useless fact for you there.

Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
There's about a 99% chance that it's just a huntsman, but my dirty secret is that I'm even more scared of huntsmans than most other Australian spiders just because they look so freaky and have a tendency to lurk and then burst out looking all big and hairy at inopportune moments.
Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
True me the damn things scare the Bus out of me as well... Spiders should not be that big... or that damn smart.

Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
The worst part is the way that they almost never move while you're looking at them... until you look again and they're in a different spot. Or when they're running up your windscreen while you're driving. It's like they know.
I also love how I just said "at inopportune moments". As if there's an opportune moment for a surprise huntsman.

Breaking an awkward silence?
Speaking of huntsmen, I was a bit confused a couple of weeks ago at TAFE. There was one hanging around the door into the main computer lab, but it didn't bother me as much as those things normally do. Maybe it was because I was with people at the time.

Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
So, here's something so horrid sounding that I thought it was deserving of a necro.
A few minutes ago, as my local radio station's midday show was going off of the air, they played a soundbite from a news story somewhere. Apparently some guy was making a big hubbub about how he found a mouse in his can of Mountain Dew.
Oh, you just wait. It gets worse.
Pepsi, the company that makes Mountain Dew, issued an official response saying that such a thing would be impossible because, and I quote, "the mouse would have completely dissolved".
Now, I have but one thought on the matter. *ahem* What the fuck?! That is fucking horrifying, even more so because Pepsi itself stated it as iron-clad fact beyond reproach as a PR statement.
Just... how many dissolved furry animals have I drank in my lifetime, Pepsi? Is there something you haven't been telling me?

Re: The Reasons I Will Never Sleep Again.
This might be more about the canning process, like the way we fill these the only way for it to get in would be for it to have been dissolved.
Im not exactly sure on the can filling process I must have missed that how its made episode.
