You should all learn the language of Elomin.

Yes, four of them to be exact, including our own language though. None of these are Elominian however

I would think that Swedish and German might have at least a few cognates. But then again, I don't know shit about shit.

Different branches of a surprisingly large tree.
And:
8 years English
4 years Latin
3 years Spanish
2 years French
Except in French and Latin I get by okay.

Also took two introductory German courses in college - "Ich bein pleite." is the most useful thing I'd learned.

<--- Have been trying to learn English for 23 years, still make basic mistakes.
Also tried learning Japanese for 2 years, all I can really remeber is "Anatna wa, sakana mitai desu" (You look like a fish).
Also tried learning French for 5 years, had to cheat to pass the exams
Also tried learning Spanish for 3 years, was told by the teacher I "really wasn't suited for Spanish", in other words, "You're really bad at this, stop wasting my time."

So we all know a different language other than our native tongue or at least have given that a go.

I studied Japanese for years. I remember isolated pieces of vocabulary and little else.

In the interest of full disclosure, I only took Spanish because I had to in order to graduate.

Were they yelling? I couldn't hear them over the sound of my INFINITE ROCKET LAUNCHER.

4 years Japanese I remember moderate level grammar and have a decent vocab but speaking Japanese was always difficult for me. I'd love to continue it but I am busy with Uni so I can get started on my Rad Therapy career.

Re: The General Chat thread
At my school you had to do a bunch of different language courses in the first year of high school (Japanese for a term, French for a term, German for 2 terms IIRC). Then in the second year you had to do a language course but you could pick which one (I picked German). Then after that you could do it as one of your elective courses (I tried to take German Continuers but there weren't enough people to run the course, so it didn't end up happening).
Nowadays, I can't remember much of the language beyond "I'm sorry, I can't speak German, can you speak English?"
I really want to learn Russian someday, since I have family from there... but on the other hand I can't be bothered to spend the effort...

That's great, having stayed in Japan for a month for a Japanese short course (Yamaguchi Uni), I feel there is only a certain point one can get to by yourself. Being immersed in the culture and community (in addition to study) will work its wonders - It is just a lot of work and as you said, it is super tiring.
I hope it bodes well for you!
EDIT: Or should I say: Rikadyn, がんばっています!
