Menswear
Re: Menswear
I had the same question. Can't say I've noticed socks doing anything to my hairs, and the difference is pretty stark, so I figured he shaved his ankles for when they show or something. Wouldn't be the weirdest thing someone has done.
On the other hand, the wearing them without socks part (or maybe socks that don't show) always makes me feel weird. It always feels dirty to me, since you wash your socks every time, but usually you wash your shoes way less often.

And, with her knitting skills, Fayili starts to contemplate making leg warmers.
Re: Menswear
That is interesting. I've never had that happen to me, but I also mix it up between various sock heights and no socks.
Re: Menswear
Happens to me worst when I skate or ski. Compression boots will fuck yo' hairs up.

Re: Menswear
I much prefer to wear short socks whenever appropriate (that is, whenever I'm wearing shorts) because it avoids the hair problem, and it means I don't need to figure out whether to pull them up all the way like I normally do, which I have been told is a no-no these days, or to have them baggy, which just feels weird.
Re: Menswear
I wear the exact same kind of socks all the time, and my hairs go down to my feet. However, I have way more on the inside half of my leg (all the way up to the knee) than on the outside. I have no clue why, it's the same on both legs. So I figure hair patterns probably vary a bunch from one person to the next.
Trying to stay on topic for this tread, are they any hair-related rules in menswear? Say, do you need to hide all body hairs? Does facial hair go better with some outfits than others?

Facial hair goes with everything. Beards are the new black.

Re: Menswear
I should have known this is the conversation that pic would engender...
I've been missing hair there since... well, since I had hair in places other than the top of my head. Probably is due to having always worn tube socks, and especially cheapo 'one-size-fits-all' generic socks that reeeeally don't cut it for someone who has size 13 feet. We'll see if, now that I'm starting to wear over-the-calf socks, it migrates upwards.
Men's hair rules; if you got it, flaunt it. I am also a beard aficionado. Guys who shave their chests are weird (barring athletic purposes).

Re: Menswear
I love having a beard. It makes any outfit look better and manlier. HARR!!
I've only shaved once since feb 2010 and I looked the right fool that one time.
The only problem I have found is that when I wore a bow tie my beard covered it so I looked like a chump when I said "bow ties are cool"

Re: Menswear
Decided to catalog my wardrobe today, and I figured I might as well post it here:
Shirts
3 White
Blue
Burgundy
Gold
Black with blue stripes
Red button down
White with blue stripes button down
2 XKCD polos (Black Hat Guy)
Pants
2 Black (Rarely wear due to a critical case of white long-haired cats)
2 Khaki
1 Gray (I've being wanting more gray pants for a while, but keep striking out at the thrift stores)
5 Dark blue jeans (usually what I wear at university)
Jackets
Dark Navy Blazer (2-button)
Khaki Blazer (3-button, side vents)
Brown Sportcoat
Gray London Fog maincoat
Green London Fog Trenchcoat
Black overcoat (came from my now too small suit, but the overcoat still fits)
About half of that I got from thrift stores, and most of the rest I got as gifts (parents typically give some clothing as Christmas presents anyways, so I leveraged that this time around).

Suit jacket fit so well.
Trousers? They not fit at all.
Suit is not purchased.
Appointment is made with P Johnson tailors, however, to get a made to measure suit.

Re: Menswear
What, the 70s look doesn't do it for you, Matt?
I'm also wearing a patterned shirt with a pinstripe.

If I was into MLP at all I would totally wear one of those. Very subtle, yet distinctive enough to be identified by fans.

yeah, that was on reddit the other day.
Sadly, the RD one actually has RD on it, not just the cutie mark.

They've all got both the cutie mark and the tiny pony. Just the cutie mark would be better for people who didn't want to get caught, but either way the ponies are tiny and subtle.

Re: Menswear
An update: Decided to buy the suit set one size larger than the one I'm modelling in the above picture. The coat doesn't quite fit as sharply, but it may just actually fit better overall. (Still looks good, bit more movement and comfort.) The pants _still_ don't fit, but might be within striking range of a tailor making the difference. We will see.
