Imagine how I felt, I'm looking at this beautiful birthday cake and my mother gives me a hammer and says "hit it as hard as you can".

"Oh, wait, that was the wrong cake" she says, as frosting dripped from her face.

I made pie today!! So much pie. And phyllo cups. :)
Collasped as I find my pictures tend to be on the large size.

^ This one was actually mostly made by my sister-in-law and we were lazy and went with a store bought crust. Of course in the spirit of Pi day I had to put in a decorative steam vent.

Myself and my 5 year-old made these delicious little beauties. All 29 of them (we lost one as the shell decided to make a break for freedom and ended up in the garbage can).

And finally the phyllo cups. They weren't so great. I needed to put more sugar in them.

I make a really good Philly Cheesesteak. True cheesesteaks are very hard to find outside the Philly area. If you give me a sandwich with cheese on top, I'm going to  hard.

Sorry for horrible quality picture:

I did chocolate & pumpkin seed éclairs for mother's day, they turned out really well. Making and then piping the choux pastry was a new experience for me, but it was fun and definitely something I'll be experimenting with again.

Noooooooo!
I went to Philly and didn't order a cheesesteak! My family from Philly told me about it when I got there but later on I forgot and now I am in Buenos Aires again (sobs silently)

I made Spinach Soup with some boiled eggs, crispy bacon and sausage pieces. And for once I remembered to take a picture! ... It was very tasty, if I do say so myself! :D

I made a dish for the pub containing blood pudding (both white and black). Also, everyone seems to like the scotch eggs I put on special again. Sadly I don't have a picture of the dish.

It's Easter girls and boys, I'm looking for inspiration. My kitchen is too small and the weather is too warm for chocolateering though. Anybody got any big plans?

Bebop and I decided to make pizza! Half of the pizza is pepperoni, the other half would be "napolitana" (meaning cheese and ham. We also added egg because why not!)

Egg and ham on a pizza rather Australian although the ham is sliced into thin strips and the egg is fried on the pizza while it cooks.

This thread is making me hungry.

Best pizza is chocolate pizza. I may have a problem.

Also I'm curious - what is everyone's opinion on eating pizza with cutlery?

Been in the kitchen an awful lot recently. Successes:

Sweet Potato Fritters -
Grated sweet potato & onion, mix in egg and plain flour and baking powder. Shape into discs and fry 2-3 minutes each side in olive oil. Serve with parsley sauce, avocado & poached egg.

Turkish Eggs -
Fry red onion, garlic & chilli. Add halloumi, and huge handfuls of fresh parsley and dill. Serve with a poached egg on a bed of Greek yoghurt.

Baklava -
Crush some nuts (I use a rolling pin on 75g pecans, 75g almonds, 50g pistacios), mix with brown sugar & orange zest. Carefully lay half your filo pastry, buttering between each sheet. Add nut mix, then layer remaining pastry. Cut into squares before buttering the top. Bake. As soon as it comes out, evenly pour over an equal parts maple syrup & brown sugar mixture, leave until set.

That baklava sounds so delicious, especially with maple syrup! I might try and make that some time.

I firmly believe that pizza should be eaten without the aid of cutlery.

Personally I do not use cutlery if thin or standard crust, cutlery judgement exception for others allowed for the deeper variants although I still abstain from cutlery in those cases.

I have admit I used cutlery the only time I ate deep dish pizza. I maintain this was acceptable as what I was eating was was closer to a lasagna than to what I would consider a pizza.

My thoughts on cutlery with pizza: It depends on the pizza. Usually I just use my hands. But if that would be too messy, then a knife and fork are called for.

What I made on my three days off (minus one day for being so sick):
9 Mac & Cheese with bacon (6 with ham)

Not pictured are 2 medium tins of enchiladas, and 2 large tins of squash manicotti.

Hopefully I get around to making the veggie lasagna I want to tonight.
