The secret is to use really good-quality bacon, like fresh from the butcher, not prepackaged. You only need 4 strips.

Mmm...I had Panera Bread's soup and turkey sammich for the first time. Very pricey but I find myself craving it now....

I made it. It was delicious! Next time I'd use more bacon and less leek, but that's just because I like bacon and I don't like leek :P

We used really nice double-thick bacon, so that probably increased our bacon/leek ratio.

Glad you enjoyed it!

The stir fry I made last night had a bit too much water (the baby corn hadn't fully drained, I think), so to help sop it up, I turned down the heat, cracked an egg in the then threw in a packet of falafel mix I had to basically do an in pan breading. It didn't work perfectly, but it got rid of the water and gave all the veggies a nice spicy crunch to them.

Today I made über-delicious barbecue meatballs for a church potluck. I've only made them twice now, but they seem to be a big hit. (Mine certainly went faster than the other barbecue meatballs that someone else brought, and I'm kind of proud of that in a very non-Christlike way, though maybe it's just because I brought less. :P)

The recipe is really simple: equal amounts of chili sauce (nothing like Sriracha or anything really hot, it's essentially ketchup with more spices) and grape jelly. Dump everything in the slow cooker over meatballs of your choosing (homemade or frozen, of whatever meat you choose) and turn on low for 4 hours or until meatballs are cooked, stirring occasionally.
It's not epic unless it's dactylic hexameter.

I made Shepherd's Pie yesterday, it was yummy, and I made a big batch so I could have some for lunch today. ^.^

But, a few days ago I made a fish soup with leek, onion, cod, salmon and prawns, spiced with saffran, tomato pure, basil, a fish flavouring cube, some dry white wine(or cooking wine), cream and creme fraiche. It was ... delicious

I actually had chicken and waffles the other day. It sounds like an odd combo, but actually goes pretty well together.

I'm not entirely sure what that is but judging from the listed ingredients I think I want one right now.

I've seen chicken N waffles done two ways (in general). I mean, the idea of making waffles then putting some fried chicken in there is tasty, no doubt, but I a few times I've been served fried chicken whose batter was thick waffle batter that was then served like waffles. That was INCREDIBLE.

/Although apparently you have to time it pretty close to actually cook the chicken through all the batter but also not burn the batter.

I made tteokbokki today for the first time. The fish cake in it almost made me wretch, but my father liked it so yea. I've been a picky eater my whole life, so starting to cook has been my way to try and get over it...

As I am going to be out of my apartment for a considerable time in the near future, I've been doing that thing where you try to whittle away anything remotely perishable so you don't lose anything when you come back AND you pantry/fridge doesn't mold over. As such, I've been having a lot of weird combinations, like potato risotto and sardine and okra chili. What's made it all better is trying to burn down some of my condiments as well, so let this me a salute to Rooster Sauce

Tonight, an easy dinner to whip up. Potato gnocchi (packaged), boiled and then tossed with pesto (jarred) and topped with parmesan, with a side of fresh spinach, steamed with garlic, oil, salt, and pepper. Very fast, very delicious, very garlicky, very green.

Then I came up with the madcap idea of making Meyer lemon curd pies on the way home from work, which is why I'm still up waiting for them to set. The smallish, ugly one to enjoy tomorrow (it's our 2nd anniversary), the nicer one for this weekend and Easter dinner with the wife's family.

More left over madness. Homemade pizzas with rye dough, vodka sauce, sharp cheddar cheese and onions.

Went out for anniversary dinner. Started with some mead, which I've never had, which was delicious. Crab croquettes with tomato jam to start, a sort of southern goulash with beef, okra, lima beans, corn, and tomatoes (called burgoo?) over cheddar-onion biscuits for the main. Lemon curd pie soon enough.
