Help with GIFs?

Postby Noxshade » 16 Feb 2012, 23:16

Can anyone help me with turning videos into gifs? Right now I'm going
VideoLAN > GIFNinja.com > Photoshop
But Photoshop slows it down way to much. Any suggestions?

I know nothing about GIFs, but you should check the 'the GIFer has awakened' thread, as I seem to remember there being discussions of technique there at some point. Otherwise, vigafre's probably the guy to ask, since he does most of the GIFing there these days.

The image above looks like normal speed to me (once it finished loading).

That particular image looks like there's a ton of MPEG compression, but not a whole lot of GIF optimization. In short, it's pixely, but you don't get any filesize/load-time benefit from it.

I will second the re-direct to The GIFer Has Awakened. It's a good thread, with lots of helpful information on how-to interspersed throughout. And it's only 30 pages long!

I don't entirely understand your method. You used VLC to download it and GIFNinja to make the GIF, right? What do you use Photoshop for?

To enhance the pixels.

To re-size and crop, but it slows it down to a crawl. I skipped that step for this gif, though.

Do you have ImageReady? It's what I use to make my GIFs. I don't really know any other methods that could help you.

ImageReady has been discontinued. It's features have been incorporated into Photoshop.

That being said, I normally use Photoshop EXCLUSIVELY. Photoshop will import a video as still frames (I use Quicktime Pro 7 to crop the vid), then I normally delete every other frame and adjust animation timing.

I knew it was discontinued. Didn't know it had been integrated.

So yeah, I guess do what amative does, then.
