Google First-party Augmented Reality Android Game? YES IT IS
I just applied for an invite to the closed beta for Ingress, which looks like it's going to be an insanely awesome augmented reality MMO style android game, made by Google internal team Niantic Labs.
Anyone else looking to get in on this?
Here's the link to info about it:

Looks interesting, and quite SF-based. Should be fun for when I go to the quarterly national team meetings.

I DON'T HAVE AN ANDROID DEVICE DAMMIT. Or a iPhone. Or an iPod that can even get new apps anymore. Fricken' people with money.

I was going to recommend the Nexus 7 for this, but since it doesn't have a regular back facing camera, it wouldn't work.
Maybe look for cheap used Galaxy Nexus phones? They were $350 new unlocked, so you should be able to snag one for $250 or less even.

...Next year I'll be at least 20k in debt. I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on something I don't need.

We have so much of these Samsung android smartphones in Korea that they are practically free. Art thou mad, Fayili?

Point 3 there is Apple's fault.

Looks kind of interesting. Not sure I live close to enough sculptures to get much out of it, but I guess I'll find out... if I get an invite, which seems... optimistic at best.

For anybody wondering why Google would want to get into first-party game development...it's all about the data.

Thank you, Gunner; I totally thought of the 'direct users to businesses that pay for Google ads - they become sites of in-game energy sources' and then your pointing out what reddit had realized (which is probably even MORE likely) peeled back a whole other layer of the onion.
The key thing here is, they collect all the aggregate data from their users do make something they provide better and more accurate, as well as entertaining said users AND getting them off their butts to WALK AROUND.
All in all, if Google is a nefarious conspiratorial 'evil mastermind' organization, I For One Welcome Our New Google Overlords.
...but I still won't buy a smartphone.

it's like Majesty but with a way to actually stay in operation since like everything google it's all about gathering the data.

Necroing this thread because Ingress is coming out of beta on December 15. I need to invite people before then to help me get to Level 5.
Anyone not currently playing that wants to play? I've got 10 invites.

I'll take one. Finally something to do when there's an hour between classes.

Necroing it again because it's now out on iOS.
So, who's playing? I'm assuming that all runners are playing Resistance for obvious colour reasons.

I play Resistance for psychological reasons, too.
I've got 8 invite codes if anyone wants them. Even though it's free to create an account, I think the codes give bonus starting resources?

Resistance, though I've let it lapse recently as I've not gone anywhere with portals. I really need to submit a couple more...
Again I have spare invites if anybody would like one.

So... This latest Helios Anomaly. Since it's coming to Baltimore, I'm going. Anyone else doing an anomaly or have already done one?

I made a LoadingReadyResistance logo that I'm going to wear to the Helios Anomaly. Feel free to use this logo on your own if you want.

Necroing this thread because I got hooked back into the game again, after getting bored of same-old boring lack of changes in Pokemon Go. Anyone still play this?
