I Have Made A Thing (which I would appreciate you buying)
Some of you may have noticed that I made a sort of in-progress post in the Share Your Art thread, assuming you frequent it.
I have now finished the product, and made it available for sale. Here.
A hand-made, hand bound, clamshell box which looks like/is disguised as a book. With compartments for ten sets of polyhedral roleplaying dice, and a section for pencils and pens and rubbers, or novelty/oversized dice.
Bound in tough red card with bronze book corners. Lined with dark green felt.
The title was designed especially for this product, and is hand lettered. The built-in dice rolling tray serves excellently. Each compartment is sufficiently sized to comfortably contain one standard set of tabletop roleplay dice; one d4, one d6, one d8, two d10s, one d12, and one d20.
The compartments also fit a variable number of unusual dice, twelve d6s, and I'm sure a number of other combinations I haven't tried yet.
The price (£65) reflects the fact that it takes ages to make, and is of unique design.

How much USD?
It looks really nice.
If you were to make one without the text would it affect the final price?

Hodor.
If'n I had the money, I'd be ALL OVER THAT SHIT!
...sadly, you'd have to fight my existing creditors for the funds...
Lotsa luck, man - I hope this really takes off and they're still around when I *do* have the disposable income!

Yeah, I'm sorry about the price, guys, but I need to fairly account for the amount of time it takes me to make the things. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm under charging in terms of time, to be honest.

Craftsmanship.
That one word - that sadly has gotten lost in 'economies of scale' - sums it all up.
I'd love to be able to buy one (or two) and it'd be unfair to pay any less than what you ask.

An AWESOME cardboard box.
I made a book safe that's not NEARLY as rad as that.
I don't really have the hundo to spare, either, sadly.

It's constructed from mounting board, actually. It's basically as tough as you can get without it becoming MDF. It's lighter and thinner than MDF, too.
I reckon the box'd survive whatever a book would.
[Edit] Though I'd still recommend going with a Bible rather than one of my boxes in a flintlock pistol duel.

But which would you recommend for concealing a flintlock pistol?

Re: I Have Made A Thing (which I would appreciate you buying
I'm going to be honest, I think you're going to have a tough time finding a buyer outright for a $100 dice box, regardless of the quality. I understand the time and effort you put into it, but to get that price you'd have to have done it on commission, so someone could at least pick the felt color and the color of the cover and what was written on the front.
I hope you can find a buyer, but if not, you might consider donating it to the Desert Bus craft-along. I'm sure it would fetch a great amount for charity.

How about this: if you don't find a buyer, I'LL buy it and donate it do Desert Bus, so you don't lose out.

Re: I Have Made A Thing (which I would appreciate you buying
Well that one's actually mine, because I wanted one, and I wanted to see if I could make one.
In the process of making it I discovered faster ways of completing the process, but I don't know how much more quickly I could produce more. I can produce custom designs, but I'm not sure how to get that across on the listing. I guess just... put it in the description?
For example, My Pseudonym Is Ix, I could make a book box that could conceal a flintlock pistol (or a replica), but you'd need to give me the dimensions of the weapon. I could also produce a box to contain a hip-flask, or ... pretty much whatever, tbh.

Yeah, you'll want to make it clear that these can be customized.

I've edited the listing, trying to make it clear I can make the boxes to custom designs.

Ok, so... If I want to make sales, I might have to eat some of my time, right? So how much would you find people be willing to pay for such a commodity?

Re: I Have Made A Thing (which I would appreciate you buying
Honestly, I'd say about $60 or $65 USD sounds more likely? More people would buy it at a lower price, of course, but people are getting used to buying handcrafted stuff for more, so if they were really interested they might pick one up. $40, and I'd consider getting one as a birthday gift for someone, but that's probably too low for you.

Hrm... You know, I think that it may be possible to accept sixty-five of your United States Dollarinos without undervaluing my time too badly. In fact, given the ideas I had about altering the process, and the practice I've already had at my technique, I might be able to do it and still "pay myself" fairly.

Re: I Have Made A Thing (which I would appreciate you buying
An idea would be make compartments for deck boxes.
the big ones for edh are typically 3.6 x 4.4 x 4.4 inches
the "standard" ones are typically 2.8 x 4 x 1.8 inches or 3X4X2 inches
(I think, I got those off amazon)
Could you do something like this?
im not sure what the dimentions on your original are.
Maybe a small compartment on one side for pens and pencils, 3 or 4 slots for boxes, and the remainder as one or two slots for dice and or other counters.
(edit the measurements I gave were off fixed now)

Also is there anything hold int closed other than friction? you might be able to hide a couple small magnets in the "page end"/"front" and either another magnet or a metal plate on the edge of the compartment side.

Re: I Have Made A Thing (which I would appreciate you buying
Ok, so that box is 5.7 wide by 7.45 and 1.4 deep. I made it measuring in centimetres, though.
I could certainly make one to whatever measurements you require, though. And with a selection of colours to choose from for the cover. Colours for the felt are somewhat more constrained, however.
And I would do it for the same price as I'm offering this for.

I'd be interested in something like this, but yeah. Price. I think I'd be comfortable with 20 bucks, could be convinced to do 30. 40 if It was at a convention.
