Fox "news"

Postby Shandi » 22 Jan 2008, 13:27

That was so one-sided. Fox does this all the time.

We watched the Outfoxed film in my journalism class about how Fox "news" and similar campaigns are destroying journalistic integrity and creating a misinformed or uninformed public. While the video itself is one sided, it doesn't portend "Fair and balanced" and it has very good points.

It's not that Fox News is one-sided. It's that they make up the one side.

All of their positions are founded in some bizarre alternate dimension where logic has no lease.

AAAAAUGH.

I was screaming, "When you buy video games... you have to pick up the box and look at the back for the rating, and then you have to be involved in what your kid is looking at."

WHAT?! WHAAAAAT?! I... I CAN'T STOP THE SCREAMING IN MY HEAD.

Did you hear that? The guy that spoke last?

Man: "It's up to parents to control what their kids are seeing."
Lady: "It is, UNFORTUNATELY, and it makes being a parent a much harder job..."

WHAT?

WHAT?!

WHAAAAAAT?! Unfortunately? Unfortunately, it's up to parents? Oh, too bad the government doesn't control every aspect of my life for me so I could sit on the couch, eat bonbons, and never see my children EVER AT ALL.

In order that we may all better understand what goes on in the minds of these morons when they see game covers, let's take a look from their point of view, shall we?

I have been inspired by this debacle.
Film at 11.

That psychologist was such a nob. Seriously.

People can't buy an M game unless someone over 18 buys it for them. Parents tend to get them for kids.

I'm kinda like The Hitman; not at all surprised at the source of this blatantly-copied-from-someone-who-recanted-his-stance-two-months-ago (honestly, if someone submitted these arguments in a university paper, they'd be flunked for stealing someone else's thoughts and arguments, and probably taken before an academic review board for plagiarism).

C'mon, people: FAUX News is like the damaged shopping cart you get with wonky wheels and - no matter what direction it's pointing - always drifts to the right.

This is another sterling example showing that these creeps live in some kind of parallel Bizzarro universe, where Bizzarro Bob Barker on "The Price Am Wrong" reminds you to let your pets fuck all they want and you criticize the iMac for having too many floppy drives. It is the world as distorted through what can only be called the lens of madness.

While I deeply wish I could say I wonder why they get any airtime at all, I am also reminded on a daily basis of how much a certain portion of the population desperately wants to hear this to shore up and reinforce an aggressive, willful ignorance.

Found this after I saw the video posted here. It's pretty good that they're actually standing up for their product in such a fair way.

What's this I'm feeling.....PRIDE!? Pride over EA!? Impossible! Blasphemy! No, the Preciousssssss'!
Damn it's the battle of the evil corporations, with Fox being the stand alone super evil villain here....

Note: I don't hate EA, I've just had a lot of grief with their games in the past. (Most namely: Battle for middle earth 1 and 2.)

Ow...I think I'm having a stroke...one reprehensible corporation taking on another, more obviously reprehensible corporation...

I feel the tagline from the AvP movie is oddly apropos here: "Whoever wins...we lose." :?

(I, for the record, do hate EA...I miss 'Electronic Arts' that used to put their programmers and designers up on pedestals instead of down into battery farms; used to treat them like rock stars, not sweat-shop workers; that used to encourage originality and diversity in its lineup instead of homogenise everything it puts out until we eventually see John Madden on the cover of a racing or hockey or basketball game...)

But it's kinda nice to see HIV being chewed on by cancer...

George Carlin moment: "You gotta hope you get more than ONE type of cancer, and then they eat each other up instead of YOU!" :)

EA

Postby Shandi » 23 Jan 2008, 19:50

I don't know much about EA but I thought that letter was very eloquent and appropriate. I know I'd rather write an angry letter if it has anything to do with Fox "news", but it looks good on him that he didn't.

Apparently, Amazon has already removed all the one star reviews.

It's fine to rant libellously about something if you have money backing you, but if an ordinary citizen does it, that is wrong.

actually, amazon removed the reviews that were vulgar or full of swearing. they did, however leav in place those that attack her credibility or satirize her work.

like this one:

From what I have heard, this book is not just pornographic and ethically-repulsive, it is dangerous. Unlike the video game and movie industries, the publishing industry is not regulated by a ratings authority. There is no mechanism in place to inform parents about the contents of this book, or any other book, before allowing their children to read.

This book's title seems positive, when the actual book is anything but. The effort of the author and publishing company to market this book towards children is disturbing to say the least. While they claim that this book is actually marketed towards young adult women there is not yet an effective way to stop children from purchasing this book. The purveyors know this and see it as nothing more than an advantage to their bottom line.

And even if there was such a mechanism in place, do you really think that children wont be able to get their hands on this book? Do you keep your pornographic books in a locked safe? The majority of book readers do nothing to protect their children from offensive books. And why should they have to? The job of being a parent is hard enough without filth like this infecting our children's minds.

If you work at Amazon and are reading this I would fervently petition you to do everything in your power to remove this book and every other book by y Cooper Lawrence from your store. If you are a customer who was considering purchasing this book I can only strongly recommend against it. The rest is up to you.

I would recommend this product instead:
Mass Effect

Oh man... I did a project on video game violece and sexuality in Gr. 12 and if my project was as "researched" as this article I would be repeating the 12th grade.

But SWEET JESUS! Urge to kill rising, rising...

Also, I wonder what would've happened if the "video games expert" was a woman. I wonder if the book lady would have been so negative (ie, if she would let Ms. Video-Games-Expert say more than 5 words). Just a thought.

Every part of me want's to say "That idiot just got served so hard that her grandchildren will hopefully feel it." I'm pretty sure that the end result will be that in two of three years (at most) publishers and whoever the fuck said she was smart enough for a degree, will have forgotten this, and let her rant about the next game that has any indication of sex.
