I would like to nominate Chemistring for the forum rank "Knitting needles of Doom". Who's with me?

Ok, there seems to be some interest in knitted/crocheted items  so I'll throw this one onto the auction block as well.

5) 50/50 Custom Craft Package

Similar to Tensen01's art auctions from DBfH 2, the auction winner gets a custom item(s) of their choice hand-made by me (Chemistring). Maximum total material cost of $50 CAD and/or maximum crafting time of approx 50 hours. Examples of eligible items (based on cost/time) may include: hat/scarf set; set of 2 or 3 dolls; pair of hand-knit socks; other?. Actual items will be decided based on winner's request and item complexity. Available skills: knit, crochet, cross-stitch and embroidery, basic sewing, willing to learn others as needed. Want your own set of Jangles and Jones action figures? This is your chance!

My goal would be to have the item(s) completed and shipped within 3 months of DBfH (on or before end of Feb. 2010).

For reference and planning purposes only:
Chain Chomp Hat - <$10 CAD, ~10 hrs
LRR Lace scarf - $12 CAD, 15-20 hrs (knitting time only. Lace motif design took ~40 hrs)
Story Guy doll + kit - ~$35 CAD, ~40 hrs
The Truce doll set - ~$50 CAD (very rough estimate), >50 hrs
Pair adult knit socks - $12-30 CAD (depending on yarn), ~20 hrs

Also, thanks to everyone for the compliments! Crafting these has been way more fun than I expected. Socks are enjoyable and practical, but the dolls make me laugh more.

I wish I could contribute to this somehow... I think I'm the only one who won a bag without paying for it in some way.

Actually, less than $1/hr. The $50 is a material cost limit (yarn, stuffing, fabric, etc.), and doesn't include my time. If I was charging material + hourly wage for something like a pair of socks, each pair should cost around $220 (20 hrs @ $10/hr, + $20 for yarn), and I'm not even a professional handknitter. Unless someone knits SOOOOOPER fast, or charges $$$$, there's no real way for hobby hand crafters to make a reasonable hourly wage - you can always get something cheaper at WalMart.

That's why I don't craft for money, but I do craft for love...and like...and a challenge (and for the children, of course). My time is valuable (almost always more than the cost of materials), so I consider it part of my donation (in the case of DBfH) or as part of the gift to a friend/acquaintance. It's also entertainment for me, but I'm not sure how that factors into the cost equation.

Also, there are now two possible ways to get a chain chomp hat out of DBfH. There are also other ways if you know how to knit... (not my pattern, btw)

I've been playing with the idea of making LRRunners wood clogs, but so far I haven't really gotten any of the motivation needed for such an undertaking. (Buying clogs, paints, varnish, etc) Not to mention figuring out what size I should make them. Anybody got any good motivation to get me doing this, for teh Children?

I remember when I was in highschool, I was knitting a shawl for the school production. The shawl was supposed to be very ragged and torn up looking for a homeless vagabond. I was so bad at it, my teacher took me off the project.

I can't even knit shawls for homeless people :(

But I can clean and bake, which is why Wraith keeps me around ^.^

About the only thing I can do would be to modify and paint NERF guns. Would anybody be interested in that?

I think it depends upon how much money Evil Jim has. He's packing enough foam heat to stock a weapons locker.

"This ain't like the city, boy. Everybody and their mums are packing heat."
"Like who?"
"Evil Jim."
"Who else"
"...Evil Jim's mum."

If you don't get that, WATCH HOT FUZZ!

I think you'll find my foam arsenal surpasses Mr. Jim's. At last count, it was about 20 guns (a few of which are in the shop), and hundreds of rounds of ammo. Bring it.

I used to have a foam dart double barrel shotgun, but it broke.

I do however have two halo plasma pistols, because I give in to my urges when I'm in toys'r'us.

Prototype LRR art, complete with screen reflection.

I need to buy more acetate before I make any more, but I can make as many as I can find headshots/images for, and then maybe do requests. Have to check people would want them first, though!

That is AWESOME.

I don't know what anime/comic conventions are like in Englad, but you could SO paint characters from popular series and make mad moneys at them.

Why must I be so poor?
