Lollipop Chainsaw - Go f*** yourself Suda 51
I watched the trailer for this game and instantly thought "is this what you think of gamers Suda? Really? This is what you think we want?". A game where a scantily clad cheerleader cuts up zombies with a chainsaw and has a gun attached to it? Really?
He's not even trying anymore.
Sure I understand it is supposed to be tongue in cheek but it's more like a slap in the face.
My guess is Suda was in a meeting and he was too busy ogling some magazine with scantily clad women and someone said to him
"Suda we need an idea for a new game, preferably one without a weapon called The Boner."
"Ummm.... sure....what?"
"A new game Suda!"
"Oh right.....ooooh cheerleaders....."
"Right a cheerleader, and what about the cheerleader..."
"What? Oh, yeah she kills um.... what's popular? Zombies?"
"Okay, what with?"
"F***ed if I know, a chainsaw.... look go away I am reading this magazine."
I know a lot of people are going to fall on the "this looks cool" but honestly after reading all the hype about Dead Island, do we really need another melee zombie game. (yes, you guys won me over on Dead Island, I wasn't hyped until you all explained it to me)
I think what annoyed me most was just the fact that at every opportunity the camera is showing the most perverse angles of the main character and I think we are all at a stage with gaming where it shouldn't be aimed at the lowest common denominator.

I had a similar reacting to Lollipop Chainsaw. It just seems like such a stale idea coming from the guy who made Killer 7.

You know, I had the same opinion about Bayonetta when it was first coming out. Hell, after the very first trailer I saw I decided "this is pandering to the lowest common denominator, they're trying to sell the game with sex, and Christ I already hate the main character".
... and yet here we are, several months later. I have a copy of Bayonetta on my shelf and it's honestly one of my favorite games.
The moral of this story? Just wait and see. At least after it comes out it'll validate your hatred or prove you wrong and turn out to be great. Either way it's a win-win.

Bayonetta was a bit different though. The concept and presentation were unique for it's genre in a lot of ways. Plus it didn't have zombies. You can't do zombies well anymore.

Yeah, gamers totally don't want games where hypersexualized stereotypes kill things with guns attached to chainsaws...

Re: Lollipop Chainsaw - Go f*** yourself Suda 51
I don't know guys I hate it when devs make us all look like immature 12 year olds as much as the next guy. But I’m willing to give this game a chance, mostly because I’ve been a fan of Sudo 51's work since "no more hero's", I still think we should approach this game with scepticism and a wary eye watch some reviews first, and if it looks like it looks like it could be fun rent it first.
"Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars... I wouldn’t know what to do with one if a caught it you know I just do things."

But when it's women its insulting.
Right? RIGHT?!!
I don't really care, if the gameplay is good (which I doubt based on Killer7) I might play it. I generally don't like this sort of game though.
If it's satire of gaming then we're progressing as a medium and you guys need to all see the funny side
I'm kind of a big deal.

Considering it is Suda 51 you can bet your ass it wont be a satire of gaming.
I think what I have been trying to say and not articulated it very well is that Suda 51 is a guy who is just trying to be too wacky, he tries too hard to be out there with his ideas, what with the boner gun from his last game or the period where he would wear a luchador mask all the time, or the fact he demands people call him Suda 51! He's like Lady Gaga in that he tries too hard and his ideas are him trying too hard to be wacky and have a cult following. Problem is, his games never really sell well enough to garner the cult following that he wants, nay demands, from people.
I accept that people have eccentricities, John Carmack for the longest time had a speech impediment where he would say "mmmmm" at the beginning or end of sentences kind of like he was almost robot like, or the guy who designed the Dead or Alive games and new Ninja Gaiden games is obsessed with boobs and sometimes "allegedly" gropes female staff memebers. But Suda 51 isn't eccentric, he just wants to be so badly. He's like the kid in school who wants to be the class clown but someone else is funnier and more wacky than him.

To be fair, that's a chainsaw attached to a gun not the other way around. Like Bayonetta, I'll wait and see what happens with this one.

If the gameplay's good, who gives a fuck?
Playing Shadows of the Damned right now, nothing AMAZING but I appreciate the humor and the gameplay is (unfortunate as it may be) just really a simpler Resident Evil 4/5 kind of title.
Again, as long as the gameplay is fun, who cares what the style and theme of the rest of it is?

So it seems that this game is pretty shitty. And probably won't sell. And Zenu willing will kill Suda 51's career. Please.

At this point, I'm just not seeing a great game. Hopefully it will pull a Bayonetta and be good, instead of a dead island and be mediocre.Vanguard wrote:You know, I had the same opinion about Bayonetta when it was first coming out. I find the most disturbing thing about it that it has Tara Steing doing voice work and she does the Twilight Sparkle voice! the combination is ridiculously weird.

Don't forget all the teenage cheerleaders in zombie makeup outside!
I just stuck with Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

I've learnt not to comment on female representation as a man.
I also am not surprised at the conversations this game arises.
I think Yahtzee said some pretty fair things about the discussion.

Well, she is a professional voice actor. One hopes that her Zombie Killing Cheerleader is audibly distinct from her Magic Purple Pony.
EDIT: Nope, she's definitely screwing with us.

Just bought and completed this.
It's actually really good and really funny. It's too short, though, shorter than Shadows of the Damned.
