Great episode with some great perspectives for the crack a pack and later. This player/host combo really seemed to work well, rather than having Paul producing on screen and not having the opportunity to talk because he is too busy, and then Graham and James who seem to always have the same perspective.

I really liked it. Also poor captain Picard.

Graham, I think we need to talk about the rampant Picard abuse that's going on at LRR. The cycle of violence must stop.

Regarding Floodbringer: at the time it was printed mana burn was still a thing, so floating mana was not as trivial a decision.

Also, returning a land to hand can be extraordinarily powerful with the right land, like a Cabal Coffers. In the context of Betrayers draft you could use it with Tendo Ice Bridge to reload the counter and wash your mana or it could let you reuse a legendary land from Champions if you happened to pull one of those. Weak card in draft, good for wacky combos in constructed.

Thanks for another fun episode :)

You guys mentioned that Scry is the most enjoyable ability to do, but what about cascade?

Haha, Hokori and Winter Orb. Also known as "how to make your opponent hate magic". Both in Cube, both favorites of Kenji, both excellent with Braids, Cabal Minion. And then your opponent concedes while crying into their cube tickets. It's like mono-red, except you give them a false sense of hope first.

Heroic Voltron is hilarious, a lot of the time you end up with something along the lines of "build your own Baneslayer".

And agreed with everyone that Standard Cam and Highlander Alex bring something different and interesting to the table.

Woo, you guys opened another one of the packs I sent you. Despite it's (now) apparent shortcomings I loved Kamigawa back in the day. It was also the first block where me and my friends learned how to draft.

Had a friend who had a Hokori+Seedborn Muse deck which was just terrible to play against. I want to say he eventually tore it apart to make a Seedborn Muse+Meloku the Clouded Mirror deck which was also terrible since he had ways to put extra lands from his hand onto the battlefield. (Patron of the Moon I think or Sakura-Tribe Scout)

Also First Volley put in a lot of good work for me in draft due to its arcane subtype. The one damage could be relevant too (you flunge, they block and pump, and their guy would survive by one; you can First Volley and splice on something else to help with combat.). Really it was just that you need more arcane spells for splice (aka more ways to keep glacial ray in your hand to put out more damage (4 damage: one to them, one to a guy, two to anything else for 2RR is pretty decent.)), and for all your "arcane and spirits matter" creatures.

Is there any chance Cam can post his decklist?
He got me really intrigued in the deck when I was listening.

So...my friends and I did our first Theros draft last night. It....did not go well. I ended up drafting a really janky red-blue deck that didn't curve out like I wanted in most of the games I played, while my friends drafted slightly better BUG and Jund decks respectively, yet we all lost first round in a single elimination. Spent the rest of the night playtesting.

I did get an Arbor Colossus out of it, though. Then bought a pack to make myself feel better and opened a Thoughtseize.

I lost to a U/W Daxos, by the way. And he ended up winning the draft.

"Defend hidden strings!"
I enjoyed Cam's defense of hidden strings. It sounds like a great idea for a new segment on TTC: Someone take a few minutes to defend what is considered to be an otherwise jank card.

I liked the bonus "Standard" and "Highlander" talk, and really wish there was more of a focus on contructed formats. One of my favorite TTC episodes was the Highlander and Budgetlander one. There's been a good amount of talk about EDH, but there can always be more. I'd also really, really, really love to hear an episode chatting about Modern.

Great episode everyone!

So, you guys are going to do SOMETHING about the new Commander 2013 decks, yes? If not a TTC, then maybe an episode of Friday Nights? Though I'd really love to hear your opinions on the decks in a TTC.

I made a "medical" themed deck for someone in a Reddit exchange recently. It was almost entirely just medics and healers. It was terrible, but also hilarious to play as the entirety of every game basically amounted to the other person attacking and me preventing all damage. Somehow I managed to win one anyway though : )

Here's Cam's decklist, btw!
And his insanely neat handwriting.

Seems strong! Also, Cam has very nice handwriting (I assume that's his handwriting).

Thank you for the list. I find the white splash interresting.

I have put my decklist inspired by listening to Cam describe his deck in the MTG forum if he wants to see what he got a constructed noob to build and make prize at his first event ;) I owe him 3 theros boosters!
