Spoken Word

See? Being an air traffic controller isn't THAT stressful.

You guys are really slipping. Are you telling me that you couldn't shoot in a REAL air traffic tower and in the cockpit of a real plane?

Come on, guys.

Not for lack of trying, by the way.

Is this the first video that's been entirely animated?

...I don't think so, but I can't remember any other one that wasn't machinima. After Hours and StarBull were animated, but they're both pre-LRR.

Video was none too shabby, none too shabby at all. Did this take more effort to make than a normal LRR video or is this a trial for future projects?

Nice. I hope, despite the amount of work that must have been involved, Kathleen (and her assistants) enjoyed herself putting this together. And its pretty cool to see her art again since Korea's seems to have stalled.

This seems like a week of experiments for you guys, so kudos to that.

Thank you guys! It was a learning experience. It takes a lot of drawings to make animation, and a lot of jiggerypokery to make it go.

To be clear, I drew the characters and expressions, alex did all the backgrounds, and Graham made it run in final cut pro. So I would say it was more like Graham driving things and me assisting.

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was going to be an animated Korea story, and got really excited. Then I started watching it, and was kind of disappointed, but by the end I was into it. Entertaining even though you could see where it was going from the start.

Maybe you could draw more than two mouth expressions next time?

I actually drew 18 pages of expressions - animation is hard.

This is a classic example of frustration humor, i.e. the audience has to endure the stupidity of the characters in order to get to the funniness of it all. The play on word use in order to communicate codes over bad intercoms was amusing, although it didn't make me lol too much.

Hey! Animate good times! A really interesting change, and pretty well done. Showing those Blamimations people up. The story was perhaps a little slow, but done well, and the incredibly calm doomed pilot was the best aspect.

It was awesome! Although it was a little weird because I know who the voices belong to and faces don't quite match...

It was a little disorienting at first, and I still prefer the live action, but a pretty good video overall. Could a LRR related webcomic lurk in the future?

I hate to be the first to say this (at least on the lrr forums, I don't frequent the escapist forums), but I was not a fan of the animation on this one. It really took from my enjoyment of what could have been a really good video.

I liked this one. I felt the progression of how many different ways the words could be done wrong was well paced, there were a few more things.

I'm cool with the "animation by series of still shots."* I've done some of my own animation, and lip sync is a lot of work for little reward.

But I would suggest you push the poses and expressions more extreme, to make it more visually funny.

*The real master of that is probably Brad Neely.

Its something different for sure, but what was happening on screen to the voices wasnt gelling much with me. I can repect how much work it would have taken, and it did improve towards the end in the way of character expressions, so kudos for that...but I much prefer the regular form of LRR

if anything, this one felt more like an unskippable to me

The first time I watched the video, I didn't even notice that you'd cleverly hidden the pilot's mouth behind his microphone every time he was on screen, thus reducing the number of expression drawings required. Well played.

Personally, I would rather have seen them just green screen it as the "animation" didn't do anything for me & live action would have looked better overall. But one thing I've always admired about LRR is their adventurousness in trying new things for their comedy, so I don't mind so much.

I also found this a bit confusing; at first I assumed that Paul was the shorter, brown-haired guy, so it took a while to adjust.
