Re: The voxlunch stream shelter thread

Sincere question: is covering oneself in a shell, repeatedly, a good idea? You're going to have to come out at some point and just deal with it like adults, falling apart isn't going to help. The point of the shelter is to give relief to people who have been dealing with it like adults and are exha...

This was mainly directed at the OP, who is might even be on the same page as you - I just think they could have phrased it a little better.

Re: LRR is starting to lose me

I never post here, but this topic was brought to my attention. We appreciate feedback and input from the fanbase, but if I'm honest I think there are more constructive ways to go about it than starting a thread essentially saying "I think your content is bad now and here is how you should 'fix'...

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

Okay. Good. That makes sense to me. So. Here's where I think some of peoples' confusion is coming from. When a trans person makes a statement like "biological sex isn't real", the average layperson's response will likely be some variety of "What are you talking about, I have a penis a...

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

So, by my reckoning using DMAB/DFAB or AMAB/AFAB referencing trans people in the context of something like a doctor's office answers most of the relevant questions that might arise without their identity being denied.

Do I have that right?

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

This thread has been fascinating to read. I have one burning question: If "biological sex" and related labels & terminology are problematic (as the cases have been made in this thread) what terms could be used instead that are more accurate, useful and sensitive? I'm asking for a quick...

Re: Video games are maturing, and could use a new name

So this whole discussion is just because you've decided something is "wrong" and must be changed even though there's no compelling reason to change it? I don't know why I thought this was anything other than a petulant grognard whining about art. I'm out - sorry for helping this waste peo...

Re: Crapshots - Volume 3

I actually screwed up on that one. 7.62x54mmR is the cartridge for the Mosin Nagant. The replica in the video is actually of an AK-47 (not a Dragunov/SVD) that would fire 7.62x39mm if it was real. The POSP 4x24 scope on it is similar to the one that mounts to the SVD but built to fit AK and Saiga ra...

Re: Feminism general thread

I don't think Feminism and any other social cause are mutually exclusive. Just because you identify as a feminist doesn't mean that you don't care about any other cause happening, focusing solely on women's issues to the exclusion of everything else (unless you're an extremist). What I'm trying to s...

Re: Feminism general thread

I guess if we can more effectively ostracize the fringe elements, people will be less gun-shy about identifying as feminists.

Also, welcome to the forums!

Re: Feminism general thread

You... maybe ought to unpack that a little. Because all the word cis means is that your physical sex matches the gender you were assigned at birth. It is not a value judgement, nor is it an epithet. -m You're correct about the definition, but it absolutely gets used as an epithet (unfortunately). T...

Re: Feminism general thread

3,000 thank yous to Matt for articulating what I couldn't. And yeah, Duckay. I wish I could be really in-your-face and unappologetic, but I'm so afraid of upsetting people that I compromise my own ideals for the sake of others' comfort. I feel like we're both approaching this discussion from a very...

I get the feeling that until people encounter the problem directly, they're less likely to believe it exists - at least on the scale that it does.

Re: Feminism general thread

It's funny that you say that, because as much as I'd like to be just as hard as I actually feel, I'm a total pushover who will bend over backwards to accommodate people and try to educate them and draw them in. I wish I wasn't and I wish I could stick to my principles, but there you have it. I gues...

Re: Feminism general thread

Psyclone, do you not think taking such a hard stance is going to damage your cause? I do what I can to make feminism inviting to people, because I think framing it as an exclusive club one must swear a solemn oath to scares people off. Whether or not that's a reasonable reaction is irrelevant - bein...
