Re: Fermi Paradox: Where My Aliens At, Yo?

The Fermi Paradox is a real stumper. The most obvious solution is also the most pessimistic: that some evolutionary or technological hurdle prevents spacefaring civilizations from arising. As I see it the three likeliest candidates are a) abiogenesis is extremely rare, b) technologically advanced so...

In fact, it says exactly the opposite: that the scientists in Avatar's backstory called it Unobtanium as a joke and it stuck. So now I ...

FLOATING MOUNTAINS, MOTHERFUCKER! what is this i don't even Although they never explicitly state what its properties are, the MacGuffinium in the movie behaves a lot like a room temperature superconductor. Specifically, it demonstrates the Meissner effect when placed over that little plate in Ribis...

Re: Avatar:The Last Filmmaker OR Completely Avatarded

Meh, I'd rather watch something original.

Like the forty-third film adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.
Or the sequel to a movie that was based on a cartoon that was based on a novelty song.

Completing the podcast experience

So I was walking downtown, listening to this podcast and lamenting its lack of Graham/Kathleen (Grathleen?), when I looked to my right and--lo and behold--saw both of them walking next to me. After doing essentially a dry spit-take I stopped, said hi and showed them what I was listening to. If Graha...

Kudos, the sync is great. Definitely one of those movie-magic tricks that works best when people don't notice it.

Re: Stand-Up Guy

I had to listen to the phrase " Rhesus Danke-Schoen " three times to parse it, and two more to descramble it. I was saying "resious doncition," which was supposed to be a terrible dyslexia joke for a scramble of the phrase "serious condition." Yep. To be clear, "r...

Re: Stand-Up Guy

Me likey. My favorite part was Tim saying "don't laugh" to the laugh track. I had to listen to the phrase " Rhesus Danke-Schoen " three times to parse it, and two more to descramble it. The pirate costumes seemed out-of-character. Also, do I hear ADR on the balcony scenes? If so,...

Inevitably I would do something ludicrously retarded like jump without a 'chute. Then I'd go to quickload and accidentally quicksave.

I really like the Vancouver band Said the Whale. Big second on that. I'm pretty retarded for the song My Government Heart . Hmmm... it's kind of a step sideways. The balance is better, but the tone is muddier. Graham's got a real sexy proximity-effect going on there; dipping the 80hz band on the Eurorack will help that. I really don't think a bunch of dynamic mics is the best solution for a group podcast. Now that you've...

Wraith is right. There's the small issue that 2gig dimms tend to have slower CAS timings than their 1gig counterparts, but you're better off keeping things dual channel. Ram's so cheap these days that the extra expenditure is essentially a non-issue.

What the hell, that video was amazing. For some reason my favorite part was the Skittle Touch conversation: it's probably Graham's delivery, but a few of the lines feel downright Jack-Donaghy-esque.

GarageBand has a compressor, right? 3:1 ratio, low threshold, medium release, medium-fast attack (to catch Matt's sudden angry outbursts) should probably do the trick. Or, at least help bring Matt down to a Graham-ish level, and Bill up to a Paul-ish level.

Having played both RB2 and GH:WT (between myself and a friend we have 4(!) usable drum kits), I can say that I'm not super happy with either. Speaking strictly about the game, RB2 is effectively not an improvement over RB1 in any way. Well, they introduced chord hammer-ons, and they improved the lag...

I can vouch for its quality. Well, almost. For some reason two of the commentaries were messed up on my copy, as well as the audio for two of the 3 PS3 reply videos (not really a big loss). But aside from that, it's pure awesomesauce.

You can't really compare the most beautiful city in BC with, well, Winnipeg. Plus, our homeless could kick Winnipeg's homless' ass. You'd be very lucky (or very un lucky) to find a place for $600 here. I don't know anyone who lives in a 1bdrm and pays less than $750. I recommend south Saanich: it's ...
