Re: Captain America: Civil War. Spoilers.
I more or less disagree with the lot of you complaining about lack of consequences or stakes. I had resigned myself to not commenting, but then moviebob posted the following article, and it articulates the why of my disagreement better than I could. http://screenrant.com/why-civil-war-ending-works/ ...

Same with me, Met.
I came up slightly more Liberal than NDP, but I'll probably go NDP anyhow.

Re: Canadian Federal Election 2015
Looks like I'm Vancouver - Kingsway, a typically NDP riding. Memo: I do not know the full details of how our ridings are mapped, but we are not gerrymandered like the U.S. My riding is basically a rectangle. Here is the city of vancouver's electoral districts: http://www.elections.ca/res/cir/maps2/m...

I need to figure out my precise riding, but looks like I'm in a liberal or NDP leaning area, regardless, which I'm more or less okay with either way.

Matt, can I get a link to the study about 1-in-5 for lifetime? The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey Reports site. You can find the full reports linked in PDF from that site. I'll link their 2 page fact sheet here . Key findings: In the most recent year of the survey (2010) 19.3%...

While I used Sommers as one source, this study was the main one, note, it's a pdf, so if you're using your phone their may be issues. http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/rsavcaf9513.pdf You may be right that she is referring to this study specifically, (which aggregates NCVS data from 1995-2013) but...

A note about rape stats. It's important, when commenting on or comparing rape statistics, to make apples to apples comparisons. In her "sexual assault myths" video, CHS makes reference to a Bureau of Justice Statistics study that "debunks" the commonly cited "1 in 5 women ar...

As an additional, back of the napkin calculation, using the best (American) numbers I could find in about 30 seconds on Google: 1.4% of men report (as surveyed by the CDC) experiencing a rape in their lifetime 4.8% of men report being made to penetrate another person at some point in their lifetime....

Just, for the record: the 2012 expansion of the FBI's definition of Rape from: "carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will." (in use since 1929 and explicitly exclusive of male rape) to: "penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or ob...

I've switched to a short cycle of targeted lifts. Because I got bored of the program I was on, and I wasn't seeing the kind of upper body progress I was wanting to see. (I also ramped my running up to ~50km/week so I decided to lay off my legs.) Alternating chest day and arms & shoulders. I've b...

I definitely think Victoria is worth a day trip, if even only for the ferry ride to and from. Whistler is a nice enough spot in the summer, depending a bit on what you intend to do there. Between Vancouver and Calgary there's the Okanagan - Penticton is a great little summer vacation town. Rent a mo...

(or I'm thinking it's more complicated than it is). Always the case. Things are simple. You ask her, she says yes, great! You ask her, she says no, move on! People tend to focus so much on one person that they can't see the one person who'd be perfect for them right in front of their eyes. There's ...

So, if something like this were to have happened in Vancouver instead of Ferguson, I'm assuming that you would be perfectly OK with someone burning down your house in the name of protesting. Goodbye game collection. Goodbye Transformers. All in the name of... I'm not even sure what. Don't get me wr...

go after people who are unrelated to the issue. PEOPLE are not being gone after. Property is being damaged. Civil unrest has been sparked. Whether the protesters are specifically the ones rioting or not, I think the question of why we should condemn the rioting is worth talking about in and of itself. This goes far beyond rioting in "response to a judicial decision you don't agree with". This is a community that, rightly or w...

Yeah, I don't agree, but that's ok. We can agree to differ. GG has been hellish for people targeted by it, and for people in the industry. For a lot of people, making their attackers into something they can laugh at is an important way to cope with the situation; otherwise, it's like looking into an...

What is there constructive to get done. GG has no demands, no actual ethical concerns. They exist solely for the purpose of harassment and sulf-sustainment at this point. Whether or not there are well meaning individuals involved, they have decided to join a mob. You can't reason with a mob. There i...

Yeah, gonna have to side with met on this one. The downfall meme has been around for years- it was, at one time, so common that it was regarded as the inevitable endpoint of any given Internet blow-out. "X is officially over now, there's a hitler video about it". So, I have to admit a degr...
