Arena of the Planeswalkers (the MtG board game)

The game was finally officially released on August 1st, but I've had it since around July 14th or so thanks to the early soft release on Amazon. I played like 8 sessions of the game so far and I'm still enjoying it. The game is a fun and interesting mix of Heroscape and Magic, with more of the forme...

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

The dream is turn 1 Kytheon, turn 2 Raise the Alarm, turn 3 attack with everyone and have mana up to make Kytheon indestructible if necessary.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Each creature that dies as a result of the Scythe of the Wretched will have their own triggers. You'll stack them in whatever order you believe works best, and they'll resolve in usual stack order. This means the creatures will enter the battlefield under your control one at a time, and each time th...

Loving how all the dragon leaders are type "Elder Dragon" to fit perfectly with how people will probably be using them in a certain constructed format.

Except for you, Kolaghan.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

I'm pretty sure there is no current way to turn a creature into an equipment.

You can, however, equip Nicol Bolas the creature with Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker with the help of Mycosynth Lattice and Bludgeon Brawl.

The ban list is finally upon us: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/banned-and-restricted-announcement-2015-01-19

Farewell, Treasure Cruise. Your GP San Jose playmat will live on in your honor. Also Birthing Pod as the Modern king has finally been toppled.

That is correct. You can compare it to "until end of turn" effects where those end at the cleanup step instead.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Creatures with bestow that become unattached from a creature become a creature themselves under the bestow creature's controller's side of the battlefield. So long as no other shenanigans happened that caused some of those bestow creatures to become controlled by someone else by the time Karona died...

Information on the strategy board game has been revealed at last: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/alexullman-news-10162014-more-magic-the-gathering-strategy-board-game-info-information/ My bet for the last planeswalker is on Elspeth just because that would be super rad for the reveal of who the white ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

My LGS is pretty big, so something like this excites me. This is especially true if Conspiracy FNM becomes an occasional occurrence, or even Commander FNM.

I would love to hear about a store running Vintage for FNM, though.

On-demand draft pods are 8 people, and it's single elimination. If you scrub out, go ahead and jump right back in line to sign up for another if you're still feeling it.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

My ancient wisdom says that going five colours is a Bad Idea unless (even?) if you're trying to play a Sliver Queen or other five-colour thing (and even in a sliver deck, there's enough slivers these days that you could probably stick to two or even one colour and have a pretty nice green aggro dec...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

So how should I go about making a Standard deck that's full of morph creatures, using Trails of Mystery and Secret Plans to increase the fun value? Stay in UG? Go five colors and not worry too much since that's what Trails of Mystery is for? Maybe three or four picking specific creatures instead of ...

Re: Kahns prerelease

Went Temur with a friend who went Mardu for 2HG, and went 2-1-1 (played out the last round anyway and lost, so technically 2-2). Our first two games went exactly as we hoped with Temur playing control while Mardu beats down until both of us can smash face. The last two games had us drawing a lot of ...

Re: The KHAAAAAAAAAAAAANs of Tarkir Spoiler Thread

Going in for 2HG with Abzan and Mardu. We figure that Abzan would have the strongest endgame, but in order to have the army build up we need a clan that can hold down the fort until that point. Sultai seems too difficult to make work in sealed, and Jeskai is just too janky. My friend ruled out Temur...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

A creature with defender means, in essence, that "it cannot be declared as an attacker." So yes a defender can find its way into the red zone if you can have it attacking without ever having to actually declare it as one, with this ability being one of a few examples.

Went 2-1 at FNM, losing in the finals. No Bile Blight promo for me, but my prize packs got me a Shivan Reef and Chord of Calling, so it wasn't all bad. Pushed myself into GW aggro, nabbing two Ajani's Pridemates and a bunch of 2CMC and 3CMC creatures. My curve topper was a P2P1 Soul of New Phyrexia ...

Re: The Magic Venting Thread

A quick search around Google and Wizards' site is telling me that there actually isn't a direct rule that the draft has to be the current set; they just list "booster draft" as one of the few formats you can use for FNM ( http://magic.wizards.com/en/events/event-types/friday-night-magic )....

Re: Khans of Tarkir Speculation

After watching the video, I finally see the pattern to how the mana symbols are ordered for the clans. Start with a color, and the following color will be the first enemy when going WUBRG order, then finally tacking on the ally color that doesn't turn it into a shard. Pretty interesting, and now I d...

Re: Khans of Tarkir Speculation

Depends on whether they decide to reprint Shock or at least give us a functional reprint, I guess. If they want Walls to matter, I can see Shock taking a break from Standard to prevent players from playing cheap burn and push the game slightly longer.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

I look at it like block/sac. You do it because you don't want the other creature to deal damage, like if it has lifelink or trample. Or does that not work how I think it does? Trample is a little different. The rules for trample involve dealing lethal damage to a blocker (or multiple blockers) and ...
