Re: The depressing depression thread
Are you sure it's not a bit of unchecked impostor syndrome slipping in? You are probably lots of things to lots of people that they want you to be. I think you're cool.

Re: The Long Distance Loving Thread
Having finally moved to be with my husband means I don't get to see my other loved ones much. Sooo looking forward to visiting my family in a week. Two exams down, four to go!

I feel that sentiment, Merrymaker. All the longing to hang out only to have an uneventful live chat. Why does this happen?

We met in high school, became good friends, then became more right before he graduated a year earlier than I. He then somewhat unexpectedly went away to post-secondary. He had applied for a program starting four months down the road, but the school offered a tuition discount if he participated in an...

Re: The Long Distance Loving Thread
Oh, hey all. I haven't read all posts to-date and probably shouldn't since I'm in the middle of a take-home exam, but I want to participate in this thread! My husband and I are finally living together, having been an item roughly 11.5 years. However, we were long distance MOST of that, so yeah. Love...

I've always chafed a bit at social norms and laws that keep women from going bra-less or topless at least as commonly as men do.

Re: LoadingReadyRun Patreon
I feel like the main point of the Patreon and its relative lack of specific "rewards" (per se) is to facilitate the patronage people who want to support LRR being LRR. If you prefer to spend your money and foresee the return on it, there are other ways to do that. This lets us just say, &q...

Re: Feminism general thread
It's sort of a question of perspective, isn't it? I imagine the folks behind the video are making the best of it by focusing on the positive, and the very nature of that supposed positive, being far less valuable than equal status, brings to light some nasty truths. I mean, as an extreme example, a ...

The Victoria bug zoo is my favourite attraction. They have live, giant, many-legged critters from Australia, Africa and Asia. You get a full tour from the moment you walk in, no waiting around or missing out. If you haven't been somewhere like it before, or if you have and liked it, I'd say check ou...

Re: Television We're Watching Now
I just started watching Luther on Netflix. It's intense. I don't dislike horror as a rule, but the violence of this one really makes me cringe.
I've also been re-watching ST:Voyager, and btw, I loved Survivor with the fam back when I had regular TV. Not even guilty about it.

I had almost the same experience with Sword of Truth and Terry Goodkind. The first several books are super compelling, but it really left a bad taste in my mouth after a while, and now I wish I hadn't read as far as I did.

Re: Great Things made by Horrible People
Thanks, everyone contributing to this. It's been super interesting to read about these people. I haven't thought of any celebrities aside from those listed, probably because I keep coming back to people I have known through work and stuff. I have found myself in the position before of abetting the w...

Re: Feminism general thread
Sexual dimorphism as far as strength and body build is riddled with exceptions, can be counteracted to a large degree by conditioning and modern treatments, and doesn't have as great a link to gender identity as sport segregation does. I could imagine an alternate system with similar benefits as far...

Re: Feminism general thread
I'm curious what people who heard of it, or who will now, think of the parents who made headlines for not revealing the sex of their third child and for encouraging their three children to define their own genders. In theory, it seems like as valid a strategy as any for avoiding sex discrimination. ...

I'm glad you thought to bring that up. My father, who isn't a part of my life, was born in Germany to German parents who experienced the war. I couldn't tell you how that affected them and him, but I'm sure it did, and they're very dysfunctional people. I also have a close family friend who managed ...

I don't want anyone telling me what to wear unless I ask them to nor judging me based on it. But then again, I do want someone to call me on it if I say or do something they find hurtful, as it's never my intent. I thought I got this cool vid off these forums, but I don't recall. Anyway, it's a vide...

Super neat, Valkyrie-Lemons. I think your artfully written stance has a lot to contribute, especially in helping people re-frame and refocus a sometimes otherwise tired debate. Currently, women* are different from men, but this is not the way it should be. This is a result of a long, long, history o...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
Hey, Auberginequeen. What you were going through there sounds a lot like how I have felt many times in a long distance relationship. I found the extreme highs (yay, we're together!) and lows (no! leaving again already?), made the middle very hollow. Not only that, but I have difficulty sleeping when...

a lot of benefits that gets you described as a 'hero' by some, which I rather take the 'Use of Weapons' view towards Personally, if someone keeps sewage out of my home, that pretty much makes them my hero right there. But besides that, your post has put greater emphasis on the point I previously tr...
