I second this request. I really enjoyed the GPLP Dante's Inferno episodes. Would be nice to be able to rewatch them again.

I'm a 3 hour 45 minute drive from National Harbor, MD. I'm curious when LRR would be having their main panel/events if applicable? I'm debating if I could make it on Saturday/Sunday

Oh snap, I almost forgot. But then again, there was something quite special and epic about the 14 point run that happened way back in DB2 or whatever it was.

Indeed, perhaps there isn't really enough data to get any kind of accurate prediction. But the math is interesting nonetheless.

Re: Idea for Desert Bus Optimal Driver Order

I just found that the Weibull distribution is like an exponential distribution, but incorporates a failure rate that increases or decreases over time. This is exactly what is needed I think to incorporate fatigue into the model.

Idea for Desert Bus Optimal Driver Order

So, as a mathematician and long time fan of Desert Bus / LRR, I sometimes find myself thinking of ways to possibly contribute to next year's event. I came up with the question of how one might optimally choose the order of drivers so as to maximize the number of consecutive points obtained. This que...

Re: The end of PATV and PAR. Is this the end of CheckPoint?

Am I the only one here who isn't as big a fan of Checkpoint? Don't get me wrong, it can be entertaining. I just think CP was a bit of a forced niche and wasn't really playing to the group's biggest talents. But the weekly sketches and any offshoots like Friday Nights and CH are really what keep me i...

Mark de Clive Lowe's new project: I'm really diggin' this guy's music. Part improvised, part planned. Combines jazz elements with acoustic/electronic dance styles. And he does is LIVE. Quite a multitasker.

Just realized the last two videos went directly to YouTube instead of to the Escapist.

The "what's in your bag" bit was pretty clever and comedically relevant given the recent string of lame internet videos addressing that very question.

Re: Desert Bus donation formula analysis

Not too bad actually. It would be just 267 hours.

And to make the team bus even for 1 year (8760 hours) would cost in the range of 3.6*10^(258) dollars (many orders of magnitude more than the number of elementary particles in the universe)

Given the money/resources/whatever and no work obligation, I think I'd want to live in Taiwan or Shanghai for however many years necessary to improve my Mandarin to fluent levels. I also really would love to live in New York City since they have perhaps the best improvised music scene. So maybe that...

Currently I'm in my first postdoc way the hell out in Finland, and I'm working on a problem which has been exceedingly difficult to tackle (in mathematics by the way). It can be so freaking frustrating that it makes me wish I was doing a job that wasn't so self-defeating, like pastry chef or somethi...

Re: What's the earliest time a store should play Xmas Music?

Being a jazz musician myself I'm always biased toward music with instrumental improvisation of some sort, but still Christmas songs get kind of tiring to me. It's hard to find renditions that aren't a bit tacky. Unfortunately, most stores play pretty cheesy stuff. A couple of my favorite renditions ...

Nice work and interesting skim, as I myself am a math PhD, though optimization/machine learning is not my area. But I actually did some work for a big data analytics company this past summer, so most of it resonates.

I am really amazed at how, except for Eclipse (this required some research on my part), all the Twilight movies have come out right around the time of Desert Bus. Like clockwork.

Being this will be the last in the film series (hopefully?), I suppose a special challenge should be in order.

Re: Unofficial Desert Bus Challenges Conversation Thread OF

So, here's the something I thought of regarding duplicate challenges from multiple people. If you get 100 people requesting Caramelldansen, you're probably going to see it come up every single time you refresh for dance challenges, even if it's random. And then after you've done it once in a given ...
