Re: TTC 107 - Standard/Highlander Deck Tech

Oh man Time Spiral references. I put together a whole document of these at some point with the intent of writing an article, but never got around to it. A few things from my dumb brain: Foriysian Totem is pronounced Four-eyes-Ian Totem. Because its the Two Headed Giant of Foriys (Four-Eyes). Get it?...

"Field Surgeon suuuucks!" ... Did you guys *read* the card? It's probably top 3 commons in the set, makes combat impossible for your opponents. No need to be a bit of a jerk about it. Yes the card is deceptively very powerful and a very high pick, however this is an old set and by today's...

Re: TTC - Journey Into Nyx Flavour & Origins

So, Coldsnap limited. It was a pretty weird format. Black is the worst color, if I remember right (although it has some really good removal, its creatures are basically junk) and the format was basically ruled by Green fatties and Blue/White flyers. Red was mostly just a support color, though it did...

If the art you were talking about of Chad one-hitting Emrakul was the art on Near-Death Experience, that isn't Emmy, its just a random other Eldrazi drone. Like a Pathrazer of Ulamog or something. Chad couldn't kill Emrakul in a zillion years. Heck, it took 3 pre-mending walkers just to imprison the...

Re: TTC - M15 Prerelease & Digital

The entire set of Saviors was pretty much "Hand Size Matters" so the Sweep cards and stuff like Sokenzan Spellblade were pretty relevant a good chunk of the time, as there were ways built into the set to keep your hand full. Plus all the non-rare creatures in Kamigawa block were basically ...

Yes, you are correct. I made it pretty hastily without thinking too much about templates.

Re: TTC - Highlander & Theros & You

The best part about Trix was that it was just a 2 card instant win combo basically, that used 2 cards that were, at first glance, bad cards. Also, on the new spoiled burn spell that hits Planeswalkers (obviously its been confirmed as doing that by now): There has never been any restriction on doing ...

Rite of Flame: Banned in Modern. Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing korvys said about the slug: basically it is either a 4/3 for 5, a 4/3 haste for 6 or a 4/3 for 5 with "sac a creature: this gains haste". Still not really a great card by any stretch, but slightly more versatile than it ...

Re: TTC - Build a CUBE

No prob. I mean, obviously it's your Cube and you should do what you want with it. X spells can certainly provide some excitement in a top decking situation. I didn't really expect you to include stuff like Ancestral, I was just using it as an example of how crazy the 1 drops is Magic can actually g...

I was definitely in Grandpa mode there. As I always am when it comes to Magic, it seems. That's the cost of being obsessed with the history of things.

Re: TTC - What's the Pick?

Viridian Longbow was a bomb, but yeah, Clockwork Dragon is a bigger Bomb, and the right pick, no contest. Pyrite Spellbomb would probably be a nice third pick. They, uh, didn't open Clockwork Dragon. Also, yeah, Goblin War Wagon and its cousin Goblin Dirigible were fairly reasonable plays in Mirrod...

Re: TTC - What's the Pick?

The fear keyword wasn't based on Terror , it was based on the card Fear . The flavor of it is just that artifacts are constructs that don't have emotions, so they can't be intimidated, or made afraid or whatever. Doesn't work as much these days when artifacts creatures have become like legitimate ch...

MemeBeej is fantastic. He is totally the Beaker to Paul's Dr. Honeydew (somewhat unwilling participant, completely apt to misfortune, unable to express himself meaningfully).

I also loved the "Final Fantasy figures with no resale value" line. I think we have all been there.

I get what they are trying to do but I just dont like it on legendary creatures. I like the old rule of "only one on the battlefield" so if you had one in play and your opponent drew one they didnt get to play it. While this makes much more flavorful sense, it makes for an absolutely mise...

Actually, the Ripple cards from Coldsnap were specifically designed for limited play. Since it is a small set, you end up seeing a ton of the same cards over and over again (as anyone who has recently drafted triple DGM can attest, and Coldsnap is an even smaller set than DGM), and if you commit to ...
