Re: Books you're reading now

Currently reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons. A very interesting series of short stories in the same universe with an interesting framing story. It is one of those sci-fi books where there is little exposition and you have to figure out how the universe works through context and hints which I enjoy an...

Re: The US armed forces: the last people to entrust nukes to

I'm all for getting out of Iran's business and just let them mess around with whatever they want in their nuclear program. Even if they do manage to build a nuclear weapon, big woop, the chances of them actually having the balls to use it other than a single test shot is pretty damn slim. That is p...

Not being anywhere near London, no. But I've heard some their stuff and I would advise to those here who can go to the show that they do so.

Man, I really ought to re-read that series now that the new book is out. I'm just not sure how I'd handle some Haruhi's antics with Miruku.

Better than a lock: just don't leave anything of worth in your car. The only thing I keep in mine is a booklet of burnt CDs, insurance papers, air gauge, scrapper and probably a few gas receipts.

Re: Break ins and such

This is why I don't bother to lock my vehicle doors, or much else for that matter. 1) The odds are highly in your favor that you will almost never be robbed or burglarized. Yeah, it happens, and yeah, we all know someone who has had it happen to them, but then again there's also only five degrees o...

I know, it's terrible. I lay awake every night, waiting for the cold knock on the door, for the squads to take me to the prison camps for re-education.

Re: Athens Is In Flames

Im not going to say that this is the fault of all greek people, in the abstract it is but thats not the point. The point that people are trying to make Alja-Markir is that while the situation is tragic it didn't occur because of what happened yesterday it is because of what the Greek government has...

The Coming Of The Third Reich ~ Richard Evans (also recently finished The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman. The story of the start of WW1... theres a sort of cinematic quality to it... as the book ends at the eve of the Battle of the Marne you can really feel a certain "this is a REAL pivot p...

Huh? No. Look: To stop these bills, alot of pols have to think their chances of being re-elected could be threatened. The only book of his I have is Argueably Essays . I understand why he focused on it so much, but when it came to religon, he was preaching to the choir here. I was much more interested in his writings about American and British politics, history and literature. Of the hundreds of hours of video I've...

And now there's an excuse to go full rambo and "Liberate" Korea. like they "Liberated" Iraq. I was talking about this not too long ago with a guy in my course, the simple fact is, war is all America knows, it's simply instinct now. As soon as someone in Korea says or does someth...
