Re: Feminism general thread
Today I read the replies on a woman's tweet and felt physically sick. What bothers me most is I know this isn't an anomaly: This is the cost of using the internet as a woman.

Zizek's off the deep end once and a while... but I think he's got some pertinent points here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4WAXQJyxCo). What we have here is a group that has an incredibly stron ideology, and will do anything to defend it. Frankly as long as a movement's founded on anonymity, it ...

I fail to see what ethics has to do with getting Intel to pull an ad campaign from Gamasutra. If I were to ask five people what GG's goals were, I'd get five different answers.

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?
Anonymity's a load of cow manure when it comes to these things. It's used as both a weapon and a shield, as targets are faced with nameless harassers, while indistinguishable voices claim "they're not with us." If people truly believe in their cause, and are not putting themselves at perso...

Tropes a literary shorthand. Overuse tropes are cliches, which ARE lazy.

She is suggesting they're being used intentionally. In the sense that, when a dev wants to make their game "dark and gritty" or "realistic," the go-to trope is "violence against women/rape."

At the end of the day, a news site's purpose is to keep you informed. If I site's not informing you about things that interest you, you don't read it.

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?
In a vacuum, it's easy to see reporting on Kickstarters as a conflict of interest. However, I think it's unbalanced to point to that and cry ethics without looking at similar practices taking place on the AAA side. Prior to a game's release, any story written about it is essentially free promotional...

Y'know, I think we can actually mine an interesting topic out off all this crap: How should Patreon be handled? Is is problematic for people within games journalism to be funding game creators and vice-versa?

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?
I think that there are valid issues to be brought up regarding ethics in games journalism. However, I think the armies are pointed the wrong way. The real power in games journalism doesn't lie with the tiny indies, it lies with the large AAA companies that games sites are obligated to please. At the...

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?
At the end of the day, articles are written with intent. Their intent is to deliver a message. Can this been interpreted as "manipulating the readers"? Probably, if that's how you choose to frame it. But at the end of the day, any media outlet will have bias. What I see is a group of femin...

Hopping back onto the topic of "white-knighting" I've seen it used primarily as an insult, generally directed at men supporting women or voicing feminist views. In my experience, the term is used (by those using it, to be clear) to describe a man who is trying to "get in the feminists...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
Another way to look at it: Cards must always be a zone. Since the action of scrying doesn't remove the cards from the library, the card "below" the cards you're scrying is never actually the top card of the deck (until you scry everything to the bottom, if you choose to do so). Essentially...

I think Chandra'd be pretty fun to be around if you were on her good side.
