Re: Design a Card

This is a card that my nephew, who has an enormous collection of stuffed animals, specifically requested (i.e. "make a card with a picture of me in my stuffed animals storage bin"). You may recognize the Assemble The Legion genetics of it, however I'm doing a slightly different thing, for ...

Re: Design a Card

Also I am fully aware that I've been "pushing" complexity down into common slots for this, but that's because I want each card to be "playable" and interesting in its own way. I'm not developing a draft format with this. I'm purely going by the relatively small number of interest...

Re: Design a Card

yeah, I *almost* gave it a named keyword; it just kinda grew organically into a sub-theme. I just wanted to call attention to shuffling, as it is a game action that feels a bit like what I want The Great Eclipse to feel like, an unpredictable randomizer. If you haven't guessed, this is a set designe...

Re: Design a Card

Yes, the card I showed was purposely using the colorless mana for activation, as there is a minor "waste" theme in the set this belongs to. Basically, I went a bit overboard in giving mana fixing to enable 3-color decks, so I wanted to add a bit of challenge back in. For this card in parti...

Re: Design a Card

I like the combination of "can't attack alone" and a battalion trigger! Flavor-wise I'm not sure I get why this is "raging", unless maybe it's in the sense of "raging hormones" that might be to blame for the goblin procreation. Maybe some other term would be appropriate...

Re: Design a Card

I would say that it needs to become a copy of the target planeswalker: "-X: NAME becomes a copy of another target planeswalker until end of turn, except that its name remains NAME. You may activate a loyalty ability with a cost of -X without paying its loyalty cost as a second activation this t...

Re: Design a Card

Perhaps by wording it "you may exile it instead. If you do, gain control of target..." this way the replacement effect is limited only to the choice to exile, and the targeting is just triggered by that choice. That's actually the way I had it written to begin with, but then I tried to sho...

Re: Design a Card

I like how your suggestions for the + ability do the job of giving Fain some protection, which theoretically is something that all planeswalkers need to do. However, I am really liking this version: http://wpandp.com/Home/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Fain-with-Two-Wands-2-286x400.jpg The ability set s...

Re: Design a Card

I should say, story-wise, the reason Fain has two wands is because he stole one from a manipulative rival planeswalker that played a role in the original set's story line; Fain learns that this planeswalker is actually prepared for the upcoming Eclipse with some special goggles, and in his quest to ...

Re: Design a Card

Thank you for the valuable feedback! First, the goal of design is definitely multiplayer... playing in an environment of completely custom cards, as they are printed with custom backs on paper that isn't quite the same as a real card, so there's no fair way to mix in other actual MTG cards. This mea...

Re: Design a Card

I'm working on some more novelty cards for my brother-in-law's family, as a Christmas gift, and I'd like some critique of some of the cards. I've got the full "set" all roughed out, now I'm in development and it's time for power level tweaking. All of these cards are "cards from art&q...

Re: Design a Card

Yeah - I like the "lowest life total" as that scales with the format. However, that also converts the life loss from a drawback into a strategem; you kind of want to pay as much as you can, so that you can drag them down with you! The Arcane was in there for flavor... only there wasn't eno...

Re: Design a Card

Thanks for the feedback. Power level of complain was something I kept going back and forth with. I initially costed it XBB, but then I figured that for 1B you get to kill one thing, i.e. Doom Blade's effect, only you pay 1 life for the lack of targeting restrictions. For 2B and 4 life you get to tar...

Just a crazy idea I had for an Aftermath card; is there any merit to this?

Should The Judge just set life totals to a fixed number, say 7?

Re: Design a Card

Could be just as simple as the spell's effect including "If a card named ~ is in your graveyard, exile ~." That way, the first resolved version of it goes and sits in the yard, potentially getting brought back to hand, or counting for spell mastery, etc; the rest just go poof. I like the s...

Re: Design a Card

Re: Relentless Revenant I like it, aside from the tracking complexity. In trying to think of a way to handle counter on a thing in the graveyard, I thought maybe it could leave behind some kind of token permanent when it dies, then cause you to sac all those permanents when it ETBs, gaining a counte...

Re: Design a Card

there isn't actually an 'enchanted creature' (since the Abuncaradker itself isn't actually an aura). The way I was approaching it is that the "when cast" trigger that Abun generates includes an "until end of turn" time window, so that sometime after the aura has resolved a playe...

Re: Design a Card

Regarding Abuncaradker: I guess if the second clause was phrased as "Until end of turn, any player may discard two cards. If they do, that player exiles target enchanted creature." That way, players get an option to do this after the aura has resolved. The thing about this wording, though,...

Re: Design a Card

Regarding "Growing Legion": This seems to be overpowered to me; my Ghave commander deck is drooling over it. Just making one extra token each time is heinous! I could see it being reined in a bit, by making the power/toughness setting be dialed in based on an X cost in the casting cost, an...

Re: Design a Card

I do like exiling the Lotus rather than sacrificing it; I stuck with sacrifice for this card text just so that it feels more like the original. As for the "vanishing" or "fade counters" variant, that's really interesting... and makes me wonder why it couldn't just be straight-up ...

Re: Design a Card

What about this... does this card seem feasible? Or is it still too broken? http://wpandp.com/Gaming/Black%20Market%20Lotus.jpg I know, the name could actually be "Pact Lotus", but I really did start with the idea of a black market contraband thing that you have to pay for eventually.

Re: Design a Card

Thanks for the feedback on Defer; the 3/2 example creature I've already determined to be slightly too powerful, and dialed back to a 2/2. That's not because of the defer mechanic, but rather the Sparring. So in this case you'd have a 2/2 with a form of evasion (sparring deters blocking) on turn 2 if...
