Re: Masculinity

I like to think of myself as typically masculine in a lot of ways. I'm comfortable with it. Certainly I have yet to question my own masculinity, or feel like I should present another way. On the other hand, I have a good number of traits less associated with masculinity. We needn't get bogged down i...

Re: So... About that Significant World Event that Happened..

Even if everyone were to agree, and Northern Ireland wanted to reunify with the Republic, I really don't think the money is there. Would the Republic want to take back the North? Sure, maybe, but I doubt we could afford it. The amount of admin and bureaucracy that would have to assimilate or work to...

Re: The thread of win

It was a thoroughly nice time, I agree. Thoroughly. More people should come to Dublin and hang about with us.

Re: Bill.

Not knowing much about Huntington's or Bill's case in particular, I was vaguely afraid this was coming, but I didn't think it would be so soon. I guess nobody did. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Bill's family, the crew, and everyone here who, like me, felt a weird connection to this person...

Happy birthday Fayili!

She's the secret best, and she's working super hard right now at college and work.

And her birthday is today! So happy birthday, Fayili!

Re: New Quest Available!

I'd like to see what the effect of participating in tabletop role-playing (of any sort, really, but let's say D&D) is on people's creativity, in particular their feelings about their own creativity. I observed in my own friend group people who had never wanted to play D&D get super into it o...

Feel like your clothes aren't eldritch enough? Turn your patterned socks inside out, and marvel at the terrifying horrors thus revealed on your ankles.

Re: New Quest Available!

The oldest thing of mine that I can think of in my room is my small collection of my dad's old shirts which are probably from the late 80s? They're not particularly exciting but I like them because they make me feel more like an adult, and also connected to my dad, who I don't get to see as much sin...

Re: New Quest Available!

Terrible fanfiction ahoy. I've just finished Metal Gear Solid (1998) for the first time, so maybe it's a little bit coming from that. The arctic winds punched and battered the minimalist dwelling like a supersoldier well-trained in the fine art of pugilism. Inside, protected from the snow and ice by...

Got to read a little bit of P&P while hanging out in the wilds of the Loop Head Peninsula this weekend. Rather nice, although cut short by family engagements.

Re: The depressing depression thread

Aw, fuck... why do I have to end up disliking everything I make? What worked for me was to take pressure off individual things by making smaller things, so many things that it's statistically probable you'll like one of them. And if you don't, you didn't invest that much time anyway. :) That's why ...

Re: The depressing depression thread

Parents living vicariously through you is tough business, in any arena of life. But specifically with academia stuff, you don't need that burden to have impostor syndrome. Even though my parents were super cool about that stuff, I have had a hard time escaping the thought that I'm not as clever as I...

Environment stuff: Trying to spend as little time as practical in my electric shower. Continuing to walk to work which is a) great to get to know a new c...

Re: Studying Abroad - What Am I Forgetting?

Tax: always in the price. You can see how much of a price was tax on your receipt. Cards: mostly debit, I don't even know if I could get a 'credit card' or why I'd bother. Weird fricking laws: 'blasphemy' can be punished in Ireland but they are pretttty slow to enforce it, I'm not sure what the deal...

I'm about to move some stuff home, including this shirt, so I decided to say g'luck to it with a photo. Can't have everything with me in my new place, at least not yet.

Re: New Quest Available!

Lord of the World is a very strange book. It's good, though. I'm going to keep reading about it. It's interesting to hear about an alternative future (which is more an alternative present at this stage).

Re: New Quest Available!

My big thing of late has been P.G. Wodehouse. I've been reading his stuff on and off for a long time. Much of his writing is almost or actually a hundred years old, yet many a creased-up belly laugh has been my reward. You may have seen or read him before as the mind behind Jeeves and Wooster, or at...

Re: New Quest Available!

Wake up with Fayili on a weekend morning, stay in bed for at least an hour hanging out and cuddling and checking internet stuff. Drag ourselves outside and go for a tasty brunch somewhere. I'm thinking probably cheese toasties and hot chocolate. Then some browsing in secondhand bookshops. Maybe a ni...

Re: New Quest Available!

I did a stupid thing in the car on the way back from a very crowded evening. I took my pen and jammed it into the folds of my jacket, then spent some time twisting the jacket around it to make it into a vague approximation of a little shoot breaking up through tarmac. I think it's rather nice. Photo...

Re: New Quest Available!

Finally talked to a friend who recently added me (on her new account I think) after literally years. She was a close friend during my tough final year of secondary school and I got to thank her properly at last. Felt good.
