Re: Who doesn't wear a seat belt?
It's actually only legally mandated for people in the front seat in Iowa; if you're cooling you heels in the back, you don't gotta buckle up... ...there was talk of changing that stipulation, or at least enforcing it for children; it's been years I've been. It's only legally mandated for people in ...

Re: For the lols
When one of the LotR movies premiered in new Zealand, they had built a big model of Gollum reaching for the ring. I'm guessing it is that model, sold off to whatever place that is at. Nope, new Hobbit premiere installation at the Wellington(?) Airport. (I've watched waaaaay too much of the BTS stuf...

Re: The Hobbit
I think they really should make The Silmarillion into a movie The Tolkien estate refuses to release the rights to the Silmarillion or the material in it. Which is why Gandalf "couldn't remember" the names of the two Blue Wizards. I know it wouldn't have fit with the character design, but ...

We call them Yield signs, and they're usually on poles instead of painted on the road, but yes.

Terrible interface and navigation. TERRIBLE. Universally hated by everyone I've talked to. It was designed for tablets, and it really isn't appropriate for regular computers. There's no Start menu; you have to scroll sideways through the colored rectangles until you find the program you want to open...

Re: Happy Magical-Rabbit-That-Poops-Chocolate Day!
Indeed, that's one of the reasons why I'm kinda 'meh' about creme eggs; they don't lend themselves to small bites - the shell is kinda thick (especially at the pointed end which one would assume would be a natural starting point) AND once you've 'opened it up' you've now got to juggle the risk of s...

Re: Am I weird, crazy or observant?
I guess I'd suggest you call the non-emergency number. There's no harm in letting the police know that, "hey, there's this thing, and while it's not exactly suspicious , it's kind of weird, and it keeps happening, so I thought I'd let you know about it just in case there's something going on.&q...

Re: PETA kill 95.5% off animals they take in (at one shelter
I just adopt my pets and give to shelters and such. Peta has always seemed to me more annoying than a real threat. Am I wrong about that? They're a threat because they work hard to appear rational on the surface, and people are soft-hearted and too lazy to do their research. When they can fool a pu...

I wonder if there was some other mechanical issue in play as well; all you have to do to correct ground resonance is lift off. It's one of the first emergency procedures they teach you in flight school because it's so easy.

I'm looking for a new background image for my laptop. What insanely large image do you think would make for a cool background? (Other than the Eta Carinae Nebula, that I still use on my desktop). The Astronomy Picture of the Day archives run back to 1995; you should be able to find something you li...

Re: Thread of soothing cuteness
I imagine itty bitty teddy bears could be made too, I'm just not sure how . The same way as you make regular bears, basically, only you hand-sew the pattern pieces together using a 2mm seam allowance, and turn and stuff them with tweezers. But you absolutely should not Google the instructions and t...

Re: Thread of soothing cuteness
As a lifelong dollhouse owner, I can attest that teddy bears that size absolutely do exist. The miniatures enthusiasts of the world have gotten very good at creating realistic-looking things at approximately rat-scale.

FOX News uses fake footage of Russian riots; they're actually of Greek riots. What. The. HELL. They've done that before. Last year during the collective bargaining protests at the Wisconsin Capitol, FOX was trying to report on how "violent" and "destructive" the liberal "ri...

Re: AMEND THIS! (a thread on civil rights and responsibilities)
Coincidentally, who has a religious reason for not voting? There are some Seventh-Day Adventists who interpret tenets of their doctrine as forbidding them from participating in secular politics, as an example, although the church as a whole does not endorse this doctrine. As I understand it. The Je...

I've always went with my mother to watch her give since I was a kid, she would still but I don't think she can since she got sick. I'm coming up on four gallons. I would have donated at the local drive on Monday, but I'm not quite over a cold yet. I just have to make sure to get myself very well hydrated starting the day before; the only times I've had problems with collapsing veins or lightheadedness were when I didn't. I alwa...
