Re: Talking Simulator
I'm not sure how much of this is just ancient internet rumor, and how much is actual fact, but I seem to recall that a lot of the simplicity of the game had to do with Notch's relative inexperience in game development. The meter-scale objects and simple graphics were easy to implement. (Minecraft or...

Re: LRRcast - Best of 2014 Part 2
Is anyone on the LRR crew listening to Welcome to Night Vale? I realize that it's not exactly new in 2014, but, neither is Radio Lab, and Night Vale has been my go-to podcast this year.

Re: IDDQDerp
*Quick summary of video compression: You have "key" and "delta" (or something like that, I don't recall the exact terms) frames. A key frame is a complete frame, like what you'd get on a film strip. A delta frame is simply a list of differences between it and the key frame. In a...

Re: IDDQDerp
Is it just me, or did the Twitch stream not really handle the high-res graphics in the Stalker games very gracefully last Friday? It's kind of a shame that the pretty graphics just kind of jpeg-out whenever Alex moved or turned to look at something.
