SoI Prerelease - How'd You Do?
Share your tales of victory and/or defeat! What went well, what seems strong, what's busted, and what's just funny? To my complete surprise, I ended up going 4-0. I didn't pull anything amazing, would've been happy to win one match ... ended up going all the way. My deck: Ulvenwald Hydra (foily!...

Re: Standard Discussion
After seeing Jimmy Wong's green/white deck I kinda want to make blue/green investigate a thing, but I'm really not sure if it's fast enough; it seems like there's a lot of fast, evasive creatures and you'd have trouble slowing down the game enough to get all the green cares-about-clues cards to cook...

Thanks!
Also, wow. I never realized that a lot of these lands are actually segments of the same wide panorama! That's super cool.

Re: Standard Discussion
Honestly, I think the only deck that really wants to pursue Investigate is a blue/green one with all the green creatures that do things when you investigate. Drawing cards is fine, but without something that counts how many artifacts you have, or the hypothetical 13-clue wincon, it seems like you're...

The MtG subforum is already "hard" at "work" brewing up new names for Shadows Over Innistrad.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
Ack. I guess there's SoI's Groundskeeper, who lets you pay to return lands from your graveyard to your hand, but that's about a zillion times less exciting. I don't think you'd necessarily need to stay frog-themed - it seems more important to cram in anything with landfall and anything that triggers...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
And its own Uncharted Realms article!
And isn't there that artifact that lets you play lands from your graveyard? From Mirrodin I think? Plus all the landfall stuff from Zendikar ... yes, this frog is straight value. I am tempted by the Frogmander.

Re: Design a Card
Oh god, being able to sacrifice other peoples' creatures, yes. Although that does require you to go into red or blue. I like the new minus ability, recycling your sacrificed creatures is powerful and synergizes well with the +2. I'm not sure how it compares to similar "return creature from grav...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
Interesting ... I was picturing something much more like ebMusicMan's modern elemental tribal deck. Yours feels less like "an Omnath deck" and more like "an elemental deck in which Omnath is present". Not that it isn't good, though.

Re: Design a Card
I'm not against intellectual - the first draft had Evren as 3UB - so eh, it could still work. Your sacrifice-focused version seems cool, though. It took me a bit to get my head around the all-downside +2 ability. Basically, Evren, Sacrifice Engine seems to be all, and only, about activating that emb...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
So here's a story thing that's been bugging me. Ugin, Sorin and Nahiri got together 10,000 years ago to trap the Eldrazi on Zendikar. Later, Nahiri went missing and Ugin got temporarily dead. Then Jace, Nissa, Chandra and Sarkhan screwed everything up and released the Eldrazi, because they are idiot...

Re: TTC 121 - Shadows Over Innistrad Spoilers Part 2
I loooove the fan flavour theory that Geralf's Masterpiece is undead Griselbrand. No idea if it's true or not, but it's cool.
I'd also like to see Geralf and Gisa get new cards; they showed up in Commander 2014 but I don't think those are all that playable outside of multiplayer formats.

Re: Standard Discussion
I agree the sacrificing thing seems strong, and Ayli is good; but I'm mostly looking to throw something together that's fairly cheap and fairly effective, which largely means no expensive legendaries like Ayli or Sorin (I actually got lucky and opened two Sorins in the Khans prerelease, but my luck ...

Re: Standard Discussion
Tinfish, the link to your deckist is not working. I eventually decided to go Esper instead of Grixis, since the new Sorin is just so good for control. This is the list I came up with: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/dragons-over-innistrad/ I was wandering if the new vindicate is good here or not. Wh...

Re: Standard Discussion
So I just realized that my standard deck (Abzan counters-lords) is going to be pretty much entirely rotating out soon. Heck, there's still Theros block cards in there. I don't think I've played paper magic since the Dragons prerelease. Actually, since I only seem to be playing paper magic at prerele...

Re: Modern Deck Brewing Advice
Agreed with Fantôme, this deck looks like good clean hyper-aggressive fun-times. And it probably does need some ramp, to get Omnath out faster. As Fantôme says, Smokebraider and Generator Servant seem like good choices. I'm liking the idea of tapping Smokebraider to cast Nova Chaser championing the ...

Re: Design a Card
You make good points. At first I wasn't sure about the draw-and-discard route - it does offer more control of what you pitch - but it is certainly in flavour for black, and blue, which is sort of Evren's "secondary" colour (even though they're mono-black). As for the minus ability, yeah, t...

Re: Design a Card
I was thinking how I don't really like most black planeswalkers. Well, really I don't like Liliana - after Ob Nixilis' story in Uncharted Realms I find myself kinda liking him for some reason. So I thought I'd invent someone less obnoxious, with a more intellectual bent: Evren, Death Scholar 3BB 4 l...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
In Nahiri's case, red is also the other colour that messes about with rocks (see Koth for example). Unless Nahiri went really off the deep end and ended up white/black - which I don't think is really in character for her - red was the obvious choice. Also, yay, a new red/white planeswalker. Who work...

Re: Shadows Over Innistrad Nicknames
I think Awoken Horror (the flip side of Thing In The Ice) should really be named "Thing From The Ice". Alas. Aside from that, I don't have anything clever yet. Delerium seems disappointing, and if Skulk works will really depend on how much pump is in this set. I'm looking forward to playin...
